A tracker for a surgical navigation system is provided. The tracker includes one or more markers for determining a position of the tracker and an attachment element configured to releasably attach the tracker to a surgical tool. The attachment element includes an opening for receiving the surgical tool, wherein the opening defines a longitudinal axis. The one or more markers are coupled to the attachment element so as to be symmetrically arranged with respect to the longitudinal axis.

The method includes matching a non-patient-specific virtual mask to image data of a patient, and obtaining a plurality of image surface points defining a skin surface in the image data. The method further comprises determining, based on the matched virtual mask, for at least one of the plurality of image surface points, a priority value indicative of a priority for acquiring a registration point at a position, relative to the patient's body, that corresponds to a position of the at least one image surface point relative to the skin surface defined in the image data. The method also includes triggering display of a visualization of the priority value, or of a visualization of information derived from the priority value.

Technique for guiding acquisition of one or more registration points on a patient's body

A method of guiding a surgical instrument during sinus surgery on a patient including receiving pre-operative patient data marked with a plurality of points defining a drainage pathway and determining a position of the surgical instrument relative to the planned drainage pathway. The method may further comprise generating an augmented reality image including a first visualization element representing the drainage pathway and a second visualization element comprising a plurality of circles spaced along the planned drainage pathway, and displaying the augmented reality image to help guide the surgical instrument. The method may also comprise generating an augmented reality image including a first visualization element representing the drainage pathway and a second visualization element representing the determined position of the surgical instrument relative to the drainage pathway.
