Fenestration units including a movable sash located within a fenestration unit frame are described herein. The fenestration units further include structures configured to retain the movable sash within the frame with the structures being configured to form mechanical interlocks with the fenestration unit frame when the movable sash is in a closed position within the fenestration unit frame.

Fenestration unit with sash retention apparatus and methods

Embodiments herein relate to fenestrations, such as windows and doors, exhibiting coastal impact performance. In a first aspect, an impact-resistant fenestration unit can be included having a frame and a bottom sash. The bottom sash can have a bottom rail, a check rail, and opposed stiles and can be configured to pivot inward away from the frame assembly such that the check rail moves away from the frame assembly. A first side bracket can define a cavity to receive a portion of a bolt from a sash tilt bolt assembly. The first side bracket can be mounted on one of the two opposed side jambs at a height corresponding to a position of the check rail when the bottom sash can be in a closed position. The bolt can include a metal inner support member and a polymeric overmold portion. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Compound fenestration assembly mull joints using joining strips and compound fenestration assemblies using those mull joints are described herein. The joining strips used in the compound fenestration assembly mull joints described herein are configured to improve the strength of the mull joints in which they are used and, therefore, the ability of the resulting compound fenestration assemblies to maintain integrity when subjected to, e.g., wind loads and other forces is improved. The benefits of the mull joints and the compound fenestration assemblies incorporating them as described herein may be enhanced with an increase in the number of adjacent fenestration units (and, therefore, mull joints) in a given compound fenestration assembly.

Fenestration assembly mull joints with improved strength and methods

Embodiments herein relate to fenestrations exhibiting coastal impact performance. In an embodiment, a fenestration unit includes a frame assembly forming a first lower corner and a second lower corner. A first sill corner bracket can fit on a top of a sill and extend from the first lower corner partway along the top of the sill and partway along one side jamb of the frame assembly. A second sill corner bracket can be configured to fit on the top of the sill and extend from the second lower corner partway along the top of the sill and partway along the other side jamb. A bottom sash can include a bottom rail defining a channel to receive at least a portion of the first corner bracket and the second corner bracket therein when the bottom sash is in the closed position. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Sill corner brackets for coastal impact resistant fenestrations

Angled shim stacks and methods of using the same, which can be used to support to a fenestration unit at those locations where the support is needed by providing a load bearing surface that matches the angle of the fenestration unit sill bottom regardless of the angle of the upper surface of the sill on which the fenestration unit is supported.
