A water collector assembly includes a diffuser assembly having a diffuser body. The diffuser body extends between an inlet duct and an outlet duct along a first axis. The diffuser body includes a first end wall extending from a second inlet duct end towards a first inlet duct end, a second end wall extending from a first outlet duct end towards a first inlet duct end, and a side wall extending between the first end wall and the second end wall.

A heat sink that can be positioned around a rotating shaft includes a cylindrical body with a first end and a second end, a bore running through the body with a first opening at the first end of the body and a second opening at the second end of the body, fins extending radially outward from the body and running from the first end to the second end of the body, and channels defined between the fins and running from the first end to the second end of the body.

A self-acting pressure activated drain valve includes at least one inlet configured to receive a fluid. A drainage passage delivers the fluid to at least one outlet where the fluid is expelled. The self-acting pressure activated drain valve further includes a flexible diaphragm configured to operate in an open position and a closed position based on a pressure. The flexible diaphragm is normally biased in the open position such that fluid is delivered from the at least one inlet to the at least one outlet via the drainage passage. The pressure, however, initiates the closed position such that air is prevented from flowing through the drainage passage.

A housing for an air cycle machine includes a housing with a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a first duct adjacent the first end of the housing with an air inlet and an air outlet, a second duct adjacent the second end of the housing with an air inlet and an air outlet, and a collar in the housing extending into the second duct. The collar includes a first annular surface facing radially inward and configured to engage a journal bearing and a second annular surface facing radially inward and configured to engage a rotating shaft, wherein the second surface is monolithic with the housing.

A water extractor includes an inlet, an outlet a body, outer wall, inner wall, helical wall, plurality of catchment areas, and scuppers. The body extends between the inlet and the outlet. The inner wall is disposed radially inward from the outer wall and forms a main flow channel through a portion of the body. The helical wall extends between and is connected to the outer wall and the inner wall and forms a helical passageway fluidly connected to the inlet and the outlet. The helical passageway includes a plurality of turns along a bottom of the body. One of the catchment areas is disposed in each turn of the helical passageway. The scuppers are disposed in the catchment areas and are connected to and extend radially inward from the outer wall.

Method of extracting water

A system and method onboard an aircraft includes a ram air temperature sensor, a bleed air temperature sensor, a valve, and a controller. The ram air temperature sensor is positioned to sense a ram air temperature of a ram air flow. The bleed air temperature sensor is positioned to sense a bleed air temperature of a bleed air flow, wherein the bleed air flow is cooled by a heat exchanger using the ram air flow. The valve is configured to control the bleed air flow upstream of the heat exchanger. The controller is configured to determine a bleed air threshold based on the ram air temperature, and control the valve to reduce the bleed air flow in response to the bleed air temperature reaching the bleed air threshold.

A system for managing a temperature of at least one bearing in an air cycle machine includes an inlet for allowing cooling air to enter the air cycle machine, at least one bearing downstream from the inlet and in fluidic connection with the inlet, an outlet downstream from the at least one bearing and in fluidic connection with the at least one bearing, a temperature sensor at a point between the inlet and the outlet, and an electronic controller electrically connected to and receiving temperature data from the temperature sensor with the electronic controller configured to modify an operation of the air cycle machine depending on the temperature data.

Bearing thermal management system and method

A rotary machine includes a shaft extending through the rotary machine; a bearing positioned around the shaft; and an air deflector mounted on the shaft between the bearing and the shaft, wherein the air deflector has a first cylindrical body portion that is connected to a second cylindrical body portion with a ramp portion. A method for cooling a bearing positioned around a rotating shaft includes providing air to a cavity that surrounds a rotating shaft; deflecting the air towards an inner surface of a bearing that is positioned radially outward of the rotating shaft, wherein the air is deflected with an air deflector that is mounted on the rotating shaft; and flowing the air between an outer surface of the air deflector and the inner surface of the bearing.

A sensor supply tube assembly is provided for disposition within a compressor outlet through which a main flowpath is defined and a sensor port transversely coupled to the compressor outlet. The sensor supply tube assembly includes first and second tubes. The first tube is formed to direct main flowpath fluid from the compressor outlet and through a portion of the sensor port and includes first and second ends disposed within the sensor port and the compressor outlet, respectively, and a curved section interposed between the first and second ends. The second tube includes a sleeve tightly fittable between the first end and the sensor port and a base. The base has an exterior surface from which the sleeve extends and which is disposed and configured to non-rotatably abut with an interior surface of the compressor outlet.

A first foil assembly includes a first key coupled to the inner surface of the journal sleeve. A gear bearing within a cylinder is provided. The gear bearing comprises an anti-rotation tab comprising a first side and a second side, the anti-rotation tab sitting within a key way of the cylinder. Further, the gear bearing also comprises a first foil extending in a first direction from a first end to the first side of the anti-rotation tab and a second foil extending in a second direction from a second end to the second side of the anti-rotation tab.

Compact water extractor

A shroud for a J-tube of an air conditioning pack of an aircraft includes a first partial shroud piece and a second partial shroud piece that mate together to form a flow tube and a sleeve. The flow tube includes an inlet, an outlet fluidly connected to the inlet and disposed on an opposite end of the flow tube from the inlet, and a sidewall extending between the inlet and the outlet. The sleeve extends through a portion of the flow tube and out of the sidewall and is configured to contain a portion of the J-tube.

An ozone converter includes an outer housing having an inlet and an outlet, a first channel disposed between the inlet and the outlet, and a bypass channel disposed between the inlet and the outlet and separated from first channel. The converter also includes a core disposed within the first channel and a bypass control mechanism that includes one more blocking elements that causes inlet air to pass through the first channel or the bypass channel based on an altitude of the ozone converter. The control mechanism includes a piston that moves between at least a first position and a second position and a bellows that controls a flow a pressurized air to the piston.

A method includes receiving a sampled input, the sampled input being a result of a detection device sensing a plurality of environmental conditions by an air cycle machine; processing the sampled input to detect whether the plurality of environmental conditions includes a deviation from an expected operation of the air cycle machine; and generating a notification output in response to the plurality of environmental conditions including the deviation from the expected operation of the air cycle machine.
