An aqueous binder composition is provided that includes a carbohydrate and a crosslinking agent. In exemplary embodiments, the carbohydrate-based binder composition may also include a catalyst, a coupling agent, a process aid, a crosslinking density enhancer, an extender, a moisture resistant agent, a dedusting oil, a colorant, a corrosion inhibitor, a surfactant, a pH adjuster, and combinations thereof. The carbohydrate may be natural in origin and derived from renewable resources. Additionally, the carbohydrate polymer may have a dextrose equivalent (DE) number from 2 to 20. In at least one exemplary embodiment, the carbohydrate is a water-soluble polysaccharide such as dextrin or maltodextrin and the crosslinking agent is citric acid. Advantageously, the carbohydrates have a low viscosity and cure at moderate temperatures. The environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free binder may be used in the formation of insulation materials and non-woven chopped strand mats. A method of making fibrous insulation products is also provided.

Disclosed herein is an apparatus, which physically secures an Electronic Control Module (ECM) to the chassis frame of the engine block of a diesel vehicle's engine, such as the 12.7 Liter or the 14 Liter Series 60 Detroit Diesel Engines, using a heavy, lockable bracket that prevents the removal of the ECM from the diesel engine it controls. The most preferred embodiments comprise a diagonal cross beam with mounting cylinders on each end and studded mounting bolts, which allow the device to be secured to an engine block and to surround and secure the ECM against theft. Another embodiment comprises two inwardly-facing parallel L-beams, which comprise mounting cylinders, joined by a flat cross beam and studded mounting bolts, which allow the device to be secured to an engine block and to surround and secure the ECM against theft.

A process and apparatus are provided for applying a sizing composition to glass fibers with improved size application efficiency, while also providing for the collection and reuse of sizing composition, as well as for providing sizing composition to the applicator device, The apparatus includes a rotatable, but otherwise stationary, sizing applicator device which can be replaced without substantial interruption of the sizing application process while also providing a sizing reservoir for the collection and reuse of sizing composition, as well as for providing sizing composition to the applicator device.

Method and apparatus for applying a sizing composition to glass fibers

A composite having enhanced flame retardant behavior includes a polymer and glass fibers coated with fumed silica. The composite can be based on a wide variety of polymers such as polybutylene and polyethylene terephthalates, polycarbonates, polyethylenes, polypropylenes and nylons. The glass fibers are also preferably coated with fibrillar polytetrafluoroethylene.

A process and apparatus are provided for coating a sizing composition onto glass fibers. The apparatus includes an applicator for applying a liquid sizing composition to the glass fibers and a treatment station for treating the sized fibers to increase the viscosity of the sizing composition, thereby improving the adherence of the sizing composition to the fibers.

A melt process for the synthesis of poly(metal aromatic esters) resins is provided. The process provides volatile byproducts which can be easily separated from the desired poly(metal aromatic ester) resin product. The poly(metal aromatic ester) resins are particularly useful as polymer additives for the purpose of such things as scavenging traces of water, activating sulphur accelerator crosslinking systems, and producing intumescent and polyester/metal oxide formulations.
