A drill bit including a body having a face and a bit axis. The face includes a cone region disposed about the bit axis, a nose region disposed radially outward from the cone region, and a shoulder region disposed radially outward from the nose region. The drill bit further includes a first plurality of cutters defining a first cutting profile, and a second plurality of cutters defining a second cutting profile different from the first cutting profile. The second plurality of cutters are not back-up cutters to the first plurality of cutters.

Drill bit

Embodiments of the present invention provides cutting elements for use on rotary drill bits for drilling subterranean formations. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to cutting elements having a shaped upper surface including at least one spoke for cutting and/or failing subterranean formations during drilling. The present disclosure also relates to drill bits incorporating one or more of such cutting elements.

Shaped cutters

A PDC drill bit for use in downhole air drilling includes a body with a face for engaging a bottom of a hole being drilled and a gauge for engaging a side of the hole being drilled. The face includes a cone, a nose outward of the cone, a shoulder outward of the nose. The bit further includes channels formed in the face of the bit that extend from within the cone to the gauge. The channels define a plurality of blades separated by the channels. Each of the plurality of blades has a leading edge with PDC cutters mounted thereon. One or more of the channels are defined by two side walls and a bottom wall and has a length, width and depth. The width or depth remains substantially constant from a first point on its length within the cone to a second point within the shoulder.

Downhole tools with improved arrangements of cutters

A drag bit includes a blade extending from the bit body and supporting inner cutters proximate the longitudinal axis and outer cutters spaced from the longitudinal axis. The inner cutters are rotationally offset from the outer cutters. During operation the inner cutters deposit cut material in a channel that is contiguous with a channel that receives material cut by the outer cutters. The cutters and the contiguous channels flush agglomerating material from the slots.

Downhole tool with fixed cutters for removing rock

A downhole tool for cyclically generating cyclical pressure waves in drilling fluids of sufficient magnitude to vibrate a drill string or coiled tubing to reduce friction between drill string or coiled tubing and a wall of an uncased or cased wellbore. A passageway through which drilling fluid flows through the tool is constricted to increase pressure of the drilling fluid while it continues to flow through the tool. A bypass around the constriction is cyclically opened by a rotary valve to increase the flow area through the tool for the drilling fluid while at the same time an axially shifting valve, shifted by a pair of rotating cams, opens to allow drilling fluid to vent to an annulus formed by the drill string or coiled tubing and a wall of the wellbore.

Downhole vibration tool for drill string

A universal joint for use in a downhole drill string includes a planetary gear to convert eccentric rotation in the drill string to axial rotation.

Universal joint

A universal joint assembled to a drill string transfers torque and axial force between two components where the shafts of the components are not completely aligned. The universal joint includes end members connected to opposite ends of a cable for connecting to components of the drill string. As the joint rotates the cable flexes to accommodate misalignment between the connected drill string components.
