Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to the use of spectral sensors during a cardiac arrest event. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to the use of spectral sensors for measuring changes in pH and muscle oxygen saturation to estimate subject down time and evaluating the effectiveness of the clinical treatment administered during a cardiac arrest event. Given the narrow window of time in which emergency treatment must be administered, as well as the lack of information concerning the subject's condition, there is a need for a fast and accurate method of estimating the onset of the cardiac arrest emergency and evaluating the effectiveness of the emergency treatment being administered.

A system for assisting with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment being administered to a patient. In one aspect, a system for assisting with a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment being administered to a patient includes a sensor for determining a parameter of the patient (e.g., indicative of a blood flow or pressure waveform), and one or more processors configured for receiving input from the sensor, determining, based on the input from the sensor, whether a rate of chest compressions administered in the CPR treatment should be changed, and providing an indication to a user that the rate of chest compressions should be changed.

Assisting a CPR treatment

An automated chest compression (CC) system is described that includes a chest compressor configured to administer chest compressions to a patient, at least one tilt adjuster configured to tilt at least the head of the patient to a tilt angle during the administration of chest compressions to the patient, a patient support structure configured to couple to the chest compressor and to the at least one tilt adjuster, one or more tilt sensors, and a CC device controller configured to control the chest compressor to administer the chest compressions at a resuscitative rate, receive one or more signals, from the one or more tilt sensors, indicative of the tilt angle, determine tilt angle information from the one or more signals indicative of the tilt angle, and provide the tilt angle information to a user interface, wherein the patient support structure is adapted to support the back of the patient.

System and methods for adaptive body positioning during chest compressions

A system for assisting cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) treatment of a patient includes a defibrillator system including a defibrillator communicatively coupled to a local computing device and configured to receive signals from treatment sensors, a patient support section, and a tilt adjuster coupled to the patient support section. The tilt adjuster is configured to communicatively couple with the defibrillator system, receive a control signal indicative of a target tilt angle from the local computing device, and automatically tilt the patient support section, around a transverse axis, to the target tilt angle in response to the control signal from the local computing device. The system also includes a chest compression device mount disposed on the patient support section and configured to adjustably secure a chest compression device to the patient support section.

A system for assisting with a chest compression treatment being administered to a patient. In one aspect, the system for assisting with chest compression treatment includes at least one sensor configured to measure blood flow data, one or more processors, in communication with the at least one sensor, and an output device configured to provide the output indication to the rescuer. The one or more processors are configured to perform operations including receiving the blood flow data from the at least one sensor, based on the blood flow data, generating arterial blood flow data and venous blood flow data, providing an estimation of chest compression effectiveness based on the arterial blood flow data and the venous blood flow data, the estimation being based on at least one peak comparison of arterial blood flow and venous blood flow, and generating an output indication of the estimation of chest compression effectiveness.

System and method for optimization of CPR chest compressions

An example of a system for providing emergency care to a patient includes an automated chest compression device configured to engage the patient at the patient's sternum to provide multiple chest compression cycles to the patient's sternum, an automated mechanical ventilation device to induce negative pressure ventilation, and a controller operably coupled to the automated chest compression device and the automated mechanical ventilation device and including one or more processors configured to control the automated chest compression device to cyclically perform chest compressions, and control the automated mechanical ventilation device to cyclically induce the negative pressure ventilation out-of-phase with the chest compressions such that the automated mechanical ventilation device cyclically induces the negative pressure ventilation prior to each compression of the patient's sternum.

A medical device for assessing clinical patient deterioration in an in-patient hospital environment is provided. The medical device includes a processor and sensors that couple externally to a skin of the patient to acquire electrocardiogram (ECG) and other physiologic signals. The processor is configured to receive a medical history of the patient; generate physiologic data, including ECG data, over a period of time based on one or more physiologic signals; and execute a risk assessment process associated with a clinical condition of the patient. The risk assessment process analyzes the physiologic data and the medical history of the patient to generate a risk estimate of deterioration of the patient's clinical condition.

The processor is configured to analyze the ECG signal to determine a cardiac rhythm and a transform value representing a magnitude of a frequency component of the cardiac rhythm, analyze the cardiac rhythm and the transform value to detect a shockable cardiac arrhythmia by classifying the cardiac rhythm as a noise rhythm or a shockable cardiac arrhythmia rhythm based on the transform value, and causing the processor to detect the cardiac arrhythmia if classifying the cardiac rhythm as a shockable cardiac arrhythmia rhythm, initiate a treatment alarm sequence, adjust the shock delivery parameter for a defibrillation shock, and provide the defibrillation shock via the therapy electrodes.

A medical device including a probe configured to be orally inserted into a lumen extending into the thorax of the subject, a plurality of electrodes, and a control circuit. The probe includes a first electrode. The plurality of electrodes includes at least one second electrode and at least one third electrode configured to be disposed externally on the thorax of the subject on a first side of a sternum of the subject and a second side of the sternum of the subject, respectively, the second side opposite the first side. The control circuit is electrically coupled to the first electrode and the at least one second and third electrodes and configured to measure an impedance between the first electrode and each of the at least one second and third electrodes and determine a ratio of arterial blood volume relative to venous blood volume based upon the measured impedance.

Medical system for assisting rescuers in providing chest compressions to a subject utilizing arterial and venous blood metrics

A method for measuring a myocardial physiologic parameter according to an embodiment includes placing an at least partially convex portion of a spectral sensor against an intercostal space of a human over a heart of the human and measuring the physiologic parameter of a myocardium of the heart with the spectral sensor over time during an emergency medical event. The spectral sensor may be configured to determine and visually display a suggested position adjustment for directing the spectral radiation more directly toward the tissue of interest (e.g. the myocardium), and/or for placing the operative elements of the spectral sensor closer to the tissue of interest (e.g. the myocardium).
