Systems and methods are provided for creating three dimensional (3D) visualizations of in-process products. One embodiment is an apparatus that includes a controller and an interface. The controller is able to generate a 3D scene depicting ongoing assembly of a product by a machine tool. The scene includes a 3D model of the product and a 3D model of the machine tool, and the 3D models are placed within the scene based on a location of the product and a location of the machine tool. The interface is able to receive an update from the machine tool indicating a 3D placement of a part that has been attached by the machine tool to the product. The controller is also able to acquire a 3D model of the part, to insert the 3D model of the part within the scene based on the 3D placement, and to provide the scene for display to a user.

A manufacturing process management (MPM) computer device is provided. The MPM computer device includes a processor and at least one memory device. The processor is in communication with the at least one memory device. The MPM computer device is configured to receive a first engineering design for a first configuration of a product to be assembled including a plurality of features, determine a plurality of parts associated with the plurality of features based on the received engineering design, and prior to completion of a manufacturing process plan, generate a manufacturing bill of materials based on the determined plurality of parts.

A manufacturing process management (MPM) computer device is provided. The MPM computer device is configured to store a first version of a product and a second version of the product. The second version includes the first plurality of parts, the second plurality of parts, and a third plurality of parts associated with the plug. The MPM computer device is configured to store an engineering bill of materials for a product to be assembled including a first plurality of parts, store a manufacturing bill of materials for the product to be assembled including a second plurality of parts and a status, receive a request from a user to change the status of the manufacturing bill of materials, compare the first plurality of parts with the second plurality of parts, determine whether the first plurality of parts matches the second plurality of parts based on the comparison, if the comparison matches, change the status of the manufacturing bill of materials, and if the comparison does not match, prevent the status of the manufacturing bill of materials from changing.

The MPM computer device is configured to receive a first engineering design for a first configuration of a product to be assembled including an engineering bill of materials and a plurality of requirements, receive a first manufacturing process plan for the first configuration of the product including a plurality of operations, compare the plurality of operations with the plurality of requirements to determine whether each requirement of the plurality of requirements is met by at least one of the plurality of operations, associate each requirement with one or more of the plurality of operations based on the comparison, receive a notification from a user indicating that a first operation is complete, and store an indication that one or more requirements associated with the first operation are complete.

A system is provided that is configured to receive a manufacturing process plan for a product including a plurality of component parts joined by fasteners, with the manufacturing process plan including process definitions that describe process operations in which component parts are worked to manufacture of the product. The system is configured to generate graphical views for respective process operations of the manufacturing process plan in which fastener locations are worked for installation of respective fasteners to join component parts of the product, and output the graphical views. The graphical view of a process operation may graphically depict one or more component parts and only those of the fastener locations on the one or more component parts worked during the process operation, with any others of the fastener locations on the same or other component parts being hidden from the graphical view.
