Pressure transmitter housing design

A process variable transmitter includes a process variable sensor, and an electromagnetic interference (EMI) protection circuit coupled to the process variable sensor. The process variable transmitter also includes a hermetic module enclosing the EMI protection circuit, and electrical connectors coupled to the EMI protection circuit within the hermetic module. The electrical connectors are configurable from outside the hermetic module to connect electronic components of the EMI protection circuit in a configuration that provides transient protection.

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to field device housing assemblies and field devices that include the housing assemblies. One embodiment of the field device housing assembly includes a main housing, a cover having a proximal end connected to the main housing, a transparent panel and a retainer ring. An interior wall of the cover includes a threaded section that is concentric to a central axis, and a flange extending radially inward from the interior wall toward the central axis. The transparent panel is received within a socket defined by the interior wall and the flange. The retainer ring is secured to the threaded section of the interior wall. The transparent panel is clamped between the retainer ring and the flange.

Field device housing assembly

A process variable transmitter for use in an industrial process includes a housing having a cavity formed therein. The housing has a barrier which divides the cavity into first and second cavities. Preferably, measurement circuitry in the first cavity is configured to measure a process variable of the industrial process. A terminal block assembly is positioned in the second cavity. The terminal block assembly forms a seal with the housing thereby forming a third cavity between the barrier and a circuit board of the terminal block assembly.

A pressure transmitter connectable to a process line provides an output responsive to a pressure in the process line. The transmitter includes a housing having a base with a process end coupled to an interior cavity formed in the housing, a sensor for sensing the pressure and an isolating assembly mounted at the process end of the housing and isolating fluid in the process line from the interior cavity. The isolating assembly includes an isolation diaphragm configured to be fluidically coupled to the process pressure in the process line, and an isolator plug positioned in the process of the housing adapter. The isolator plug having a lower plug portion providing a first end surface adjacent the isolation diaphragm, an upper plug portion providing a second end surface distally spaced from the first end surface and adjacent a sensor cavity in which the sensor is positioned, a connection mechanism connecting the lower and upper plug portions, and a capillary filled with isolation fluid and extending from the first end surface through the lower and upper plug portions to the second end surface thereby coupling the pressure through the isolation diaphragm and the capillary to the sensor cavity and the sensor. The upper plug portion is formed from a first material and the lower plug portion is formed from a second material having higher corrosion resistance than the first material.

A seal board includes a circuit board with vias, conductor pins, and solder joints. The solder joints connect and seal each conductor pin to a single via, such that each conductor pin extends through the via and extends from a first side of the circuit board and a second side of the circuit board. The seal board is mounted to cover an opening in a bulkhead that separates a first compartment (such as a terminal block compartment) from a second compartment (such as an electronics or feature board compartment). The seal board provides electrical paths between the compartments while protecting components within one of the compartments from the surrounding environment.

A compliant circuit element spacing system comprises a circuit board, a dummy spacer component, and a compliant circuit element. One or more active components are mounted to the circuit board. The dummy spacer component is also mounted to the circuit board, such that the dummy spacer component is electrically isolated from each active component mounted to the circuit board. The compliant circuit element is positionable proximate the circuit board, and spaced from the circuit board by the dummy spacer component. The spacing component isolates the compliant circuit element from each active component mounted to the circuit board.

A pressure monitoring system provides a pressure sensor and a body that has a first coefficient of thermal expansion and includes at least one opening for accessing a process fluid. At least one isolation diaphragm is coupled to the body and positioned in the at least one opening. The at least one isolation diaphragm has a first surface in communication with the process fluid. At least one passageway is located in the body and configured to contain a fill fluid in communication with a second surface of the first isolation diaphragm. The at least one passageway is positioned between the first isolation diaphragm and the pressure sensor. At least one expansion chamber is coupled to the first passageway and includes an insert having a second coefficient of thermal expansion. The first coefficient of thermal expansion of the body is greater than the second coefficient of thermal expansion of the insert.

A pressure transducer for clean environments is disclosed. The pressure transducer includes a process coupler, a sensor module, a shield and electronics. The process coupler is configured to couple to a source of process media at a process inlet. The sensor module is coupled to the process coupler and has a pressure sensor therein. The pressure sensor has an electrical characteristic that varies in response to pressure within the sensor module. The shield is disposed adjacent to the process coupler and configured to obstruct substantially all lines of sight between the process inlet and the pressure sensor. Electronics within the transducer are coupled to the pressure sensor to measure the electrical characteristic and provide an indication thereof. A method of sensing a pressure in a clean environment is also provided.

Process adapter

An electrical connector protects a pressure sensor stem that protrudes from a pressure sensor capsule. The electrical connector includes a baseplate with a central hole and a peripheral wall joined to the baseplate and protruding below the baseplate. The peripheral wall slidingly engages the pressure sensor capsule as the pressure sensor stem passes through the central hole to protrude above the baseplate. A protective wall joined to the baseplate protrudes above the pressure sensor stem and protects the pressure sensor stem. A lead frame in the protective wall provides electrical connections to sensor contact pads on the pressure sensor stem.

A grip for holding soft materials is described wherein the gripping surface of the grip is cooled by a thermo-electric cooler. The grip of the present invention includes grip members having opposed gripping surfaces that contact the soft material. The grip does not require use of cryogenic materials and is suitable for use in contact with fluids at body temperature. The temperature of the grip can be easily controlled.
