A system and method for producing a modified coal ash involves collecting a bulk quantity of such coal ash, generally after it has been produced or landfilled, or is otherwise at temperatures closer to ambient, as opposed to power plant operational temperatures. In one possible implementation, the method herein involves removing carbon from the coal ash, such removal occurring by exposing the carbon to indirect heat, that is, externally-applied heat. For coal ashes with higher ash content. This removal is accomplished by subjecting the coal ash stream to heat, in one implementation, ranging between 850&#xb0; F. and 1200&#xb0; F., and such heat exposure occurring from about 10 minutes to about 30 minutes. The range of exposure time for the coal ash is determined so as to reduce the LOI from its initial level to a level acceptable for intended re-use or recycling. In one application, the LOI of carbon in the ash is reduced to 3% or less carbon. Upon completion of the range of the exposure time, the coal ash stream is removed from the sublimation heat, thereby forming a modified coal ash.

Coal ash treatment system and method

A method for reducing pollution in exhaust gases and a system for treating exhaust gas are provided. The method includes the step of treating an exhaust gas stream with a treating fluid. In one application, the treating fluid is injected by spraying droplets into the exhaust gas stream. A system for treating exhaust gas includes a reagent, and a nozzle to spray the reagent into the exhaust gas stream.

Exhaust gas pollution reduction

Methods for treating an industrial byproduct, such as spent, granular, activated carbon, dredge spoils, or contaminated soils involve integrated steps to clean, concentrate, separate and/or otherwise collect hazardous and/or desired materials from such industrial byproducts. The cleaned, concentrated, separated, or collected materials may involve sufficient quantities to be useful to subsequent processors, raw materials, additives, and the like. Other treatment methods involve retaining the clean material stream at sufficient temperatures for sufficient time to separate and concentrate desired material for recovery therefrom, such as precious metals and rare earth elements.

Spent activated carbon and industrial by product treatment system and method

A method of treating cement kiln fuel includes introducing an additive to a fuel component to form a fuel mixture. The fuel component includes a sulfur-generating combustible fuel and the additive includes a micronized lime component. The method further includes combusting the fuel component within a cement kiln. The sulfur generated by the combustion of the combustible fuel forms calcium-containing sulfur compounds with lime provided by the micronized lime component. The calcium-containing sulfur compounds fall to a bed of clinker forming beneath the flame and some portion thereof may become resident in the clinker.

Cement kiln fuel treatment

A method for reducing pollution in a cement kiln environment and a system for treating cement kiln exhaust gas are provided. The method includes the steps of: treating a cement kiln exhaust gas stream with a treating fluid, such as a water soluble alkaline-earth metal sulfide. In one application, the treating fluid is injected by spraying droplets into the cement kiln exhaust gas stream. A system for treating cement kiln exhaust gas includes a reagent containing a water soluble alkaline-earth metal sulfide in water, and a nozzle to spray the reagent into the cement kiln exhaust gas stream.

Cement kiln exhaust gas pollution reduction

A method for treating powdered activated carbon (PAC) and/or coal combustion residues (CCRs) by heating at least one of a spent PAC and/or a CCR to separate at least one heavy metal from the at least one of the spent PAC and/or the CCR to create a clean stream and a heavy metal stream, combining the heavy metal stream with a water soluble alkaline-earth metal sulfide to create a combined stream, and removing at least a portion of the at least one heavy metal from the combined stream. The heating may further include heating the at least one of the spent PAC and/or the CCR in an inert atmosphere. Further, the combining may include combining the heavy metal stream with the water soluble alkaline-earth metal sulfide and a catalyst and/or a surfactant or hyperdispersant.

Activated carbon and coal combustion residue treatment system and method

A system and method for treating cement kiln dust is provided. The method includes the steps of receiving cement kiln dust (CKD) from a kiln; heating the collected CKD; forming a gas stream of vaporized metal and CKD by sufficient heating to separate at least one heavy metal from the collected CKD stream to create a cleaned CKD stream and a metal stream; providing a water soluble alkaline-earth metal polysulfide; combining the heavy metal stream with the water soluble alkaline-earth metal sulfide to create a combined stream; and removing at least a portion of one heavy metal from the combined stream.

Cement kiln dust treatment system and method

A method for treating cement kiln exhaust is provided. The method includes the steps of: providing a cement kiln exhaust gas stream from a kiln; providing a water soluble alkaline-earth metal polysulfide; combining the cement kiln exhaust stream with the water soluble alkaline-earth metal polysulfide to create a combined stream; and removing at least a portion of one heavy metal from the combined stream.
