A radio-frequency (RF) apparatus includes a wideband receive (RX) impedance matching circuit to provide a received differential RF signal to RF receive circuitry. The wideband RX impedance matching circuit includes first and second inductors to receive the differential RF signal. The wideband RX impedance matching circuit further includes a third inductor coupled across an input o the RF receive circuitry. The third inductor performs the functionality of a capacitor having a negative capacitance value.

Apparatus for radio-frequency matching networks and associated methods

A system and method of minimizing interference and retries in an environment where two or more network protocols utilize the same frequency spectrum is disclosed. A lower-power network controller is co-located with a WIFI controller. The lower-power network controller parses incoming packets as they are received and generates a request signal once it is determined that the incoming packet is destined for this device. This maximizes the likelihood that no WIFI traffic will occur while the incoming packet is being received.

A hybrid matching network is suitable for use with a radio frequency transmission system having a fundamental frequency and a terminating impedance. The hybrid matching network includes a first port, a first capacitor coupled between the first port and ground and having a self resonance frequency that provides attenuation of at least a first amount of a second harmonic of the fundamental frequency, an inductor coupled between the first port and ground and having an inductance such that a parallel combination of the first capacitor and the inductor has a resonant frequency at the fundamental frequency, a transmission line segment having a first end coupled to the first port, a second end, having a desired physical length and a desired physical width, and a second port coupled to the second end of the transmission line segment and adapted to be coupled to the terminating impedance.

Transmission line matching network and method therefor

A communications system includes a first and second communication unit coupled together via a radio communications link. In one embodiment, the communications system takes the form of a frequency hopped, spread spectrum digital cordless telephone, where the first unit is a base unit and the second unit is the remote unit. The first and second communication units are respectively set to transmit and receive communication over a first radio frequency during a first time frame, select a second radio frequency during the first time frame, and set to respectively receive and transmit communication over the second radio frequency during a second time frame.

A cordless telephone provides extended operating range and battery life. In one embodiment, a time division duplex communications protocol is used when the measured signal strength or the signal quality between the handset and a corresponding base unit does not satisfy a known criteria, such as a predetermined threshold. The telephone is also configured to operate using a frequency division duplex communications protocol when the signal strength or signal quality between the handset and the base unit satisfies the known criteria. Other aspects of the invention are directed to measuring the received signal strength of the communications channel after initial communications is established, and selecting the communications protocol that is most advantageous in light of the measured signal strength and/or signal conditions.
