The present invention provides a wire guide () suitable for use in a body vessel, such as a peripheral vessel. The wire guide comprises a core member () and a first coiled member (), each having proximal and distal ends. In one embodiment, the core member comprises at least one recessed portion (), wherein the proximal end of the first coiled member is seated at least partially within the recessed portion to form a substantially flush exterior surface with the core member. The wire guide further preferably comprises a second coiled member () having proximal and distal ends, wherein the second coiled member is disposed distal to the first coiled member. The distal end of the first coiled member may be partially intertwined with the proximal end of. the second coiled member. A shaping ribbon () may be disposed substantially beneath the second coiled member to achieve a desired curvature at the distal tip of the wire guide.

Wire guide

A method for closing a body opening in a patient is disclosed. The method comprises positioning a delivery catheter within the body opening. The delivery catheter includes a closure device comprising a distal occluding body and a proximal occluding body. The closure device is collapsibly disposed within a distal end of the delivery catheter. The method further includes deploying the closure device from the delivery catheter about the body opening such that a distal frame of the distal occluding body expands to its expanded configuration at a distal end of the body opening and a proximal frame of the proximal occluding body expands to its expanded configuration at an opposing proximal end of the body opening.

Closure device with string retractable umbrella and method for closing a body opening with the same

A repositionable closure device for occluding a body opening is provided. The closure device includes distal and proximal occluding bodies having expandable distal and proximal umbrella frames. Each umbrella frame includes a plurality of struts connected to a biocompatible sheet material. The distal and proximal umbrella frames expand to expanded configurations on opposite sides of the body opening. The struts of the distal umbrella frame terminate with an eyelet. The distal occluding body is connected to a distal end of a center rod and the proximal umbrella frame is slidable along the center rod via a center ring. At least one drawstring is threaded through the eyelets and the center ring, connecting the distal and proximal occluding bodies. The drawstring extends proximally from the center ring. Manipulation of the drawstring and the center rod is configured to collapse the closure device for at least partial retrieval during repositioning.

Closure device with string retractable umbrella

An apparatus and method for making an occlusion device for occluding a body vessel. The apparatus and method include providing a frame and a mandrel. The frame has a hub extending along a longitudinal axis from a proximal end to a distal end. A plurality of arcuate legs are attached to the hub and extend distally. The arcuate legs are flexible and have inner surfaces defining an inner profile in an unconstrained state. The mandrel has an outer surface corresponding to the inner profile of the occlusion device. A base layer of a biocompatible material is disposed on the outer surface of the mandrel. The frame is placed on the outer surface with the base layer between the frame and the mandrel. The frame is attached to the base layer such that the biocompatible material forms a membrane extending along and between the arcuate legs.

Apparatus and method for making a spider occlusion device

A coupling wire guide structured to be slidably coupled to a previously introduced wire guide. The coupling wire guide includes a main body having a distal section. The distal section includes an outer wire disposed over a safety wire. A loop wire is connected to the safety wire at two axially spaced points. At least a portion of the loop wire is positioned outside of the outer wire to define a loop area sized to receive the previously introduced wire guide.

An iris-type valve assembly comprises a base, a rotatable member, and an elongated elastomeric valve sheath. The distal end of the valve sheath is secured to the base, and the proximal end of the valve sheath is secured to the rotatable member. At least one of the valve sheath ends includes a flange that is secured to a valve-receiving surface of the base or the rotatable member. The base and the rotatable member are aligned to define a passageway therethrough for passage of an interventional device. The valve sheath is disposed along the passageway and has a longitudinal opening therethrough for passage of the interventional device. Upon rotation of the rotatable member relative to the base, the longitudinal opening of the valve sheath is selectively constrictable to comprise a seal around the interventional device.
