A light source () comprises a light engine (), a base (), a power conversion circuit () and an enclosure (). The light engine () comprises at least one LED () disposed on a platform (). The platform () is adapted to directly mate with the base () which a standard incandescent bulb light base. Phosphor () receives the light generated by the at least one LED () and converts it to visible light. The enclosure () has a shape of a standard incandescent lamp.

Systems and methods are described for performing film insert molding (FIM) on a 3D shape, such as a traffic light shell or cover. A film is pre-generated for a surface to be covered by the film, and is inserted into a mold. A viscous material is then injected into the mold and the film bonds to the shell as the viscous material cools and hardens. The film includes a material selected to provide one or more of scratch resistance, improved shell hardness, UV protection, corrosion protection etc., and/or may be selected to alter optical characteristics of the shell.

An illuminated sign () includes a flexible electrical power cord () including first and second parallel conductors () surroundingly contained within an insulating sheath defining a constant separation distance between the parallel conductors (). A plurality of light emitting diode (LED) devices () are affixed to the cord (). Each LED device () includes an LED () having a positive lead () electrically communicating with the first parallel conductor () and a negative lead () electrically communicating with the second parallel conductor (). A stencil () defines a selected shape, and the electrical cord () is arranged on the stencil (). Power conditioning electronics () disposed away from the stencil () electrically communicate with the first and second parallel conductors () of the electrical power cord (). The power conditioning electronics () power the LED devices () via the parallel conductors ().

The inventive dummy load is mounted on the input power cables of a traffic signal while managing the heat load generated by either a resistive and/or capacitive load. Using the inventive dummy load, there is no thermal path back to the light emitting diode (LED) board. The inventive dummy load may be easly installed, removed, or replaced. The dummy load can be retrofit to adapt to a new controller, either by adding to or replacing the dummy load after initial installation or by removing part or all of the dummy load. There is no need to breach the sealed lamp to adjust the dummy load. Thus, field-adjustments can be made. Further, the number of parts required to manufacture lamps for a variety of retrofit applications are reduced, which in turn reduces the cost and complexity of the lamp.

Remote dummy load

An LED light engine includes a flexible electrical cable and a plurality of LEDs. The flexible electrical cable includes first, second and third electrical conductors and an electrically insulating covering for the electrical conductors. The conductors are arranged substantially parallel with one another having an insulating material therebetween. A first LED including a first lead electrically connects to the first electrical conductor and a second lead of the first LED electrically connects to the second conductor. A second LED includes a first lead electrically connected to the second electrical conductor and a second lead electrically connected to the third electrical conductor. A third LED includes first and second leads electrically connected to the second conductor. The third LED is interposed between the first LED and the second LED.

Parallel/series LED strip

A lighting apparatus () includes a wave guide () formed from a translucent material. The wave guide has a top surface (), a bottom surface () that has a pre-defined curvature, and at least one side surface () that receives light () injected therein. A plurality of microstructures () is arranged on selected areas of the bottom surface () of the wave guide (). The plurality of microstructures () cooperates with the pre-defined curvature of the bottom surface () to scatter at least a portion of the light () injected into the at least one side surface (). The scattered light () exits the wave guide () through the top surface (). At least one light emitting diode () injects light () into the at least one side surface () of the wave guide (). The scattered light () that exits the wave guide () forms at least one symbol viewable by an associated observer.

Optical wave guide

A light module includes a light emitting diode assembly defining a front side light emitting diode array and a rear side. The rear side is in thermal communication with a thermally conductive spreader, and a thermally conductive core is in thermal communication with the conductive spreader. The thermally conductive core includes an electrical conductor in operative communication with the front side light emitting diode array, and a plurality of appendages disposed about the thermally conductive core such that they are in thermal communication with the conductive spreader.

A lighting assembly for improving the performance of undercabinet and stream-lined lighting includes a LED module onto which is mounted a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs). The LEDs serve as the light source for generating a light pattern. An optical assembly focuses and disperses the LED output to a desired light contour. The lighting assembly further includes a mounting base for attaching the LED module to an associated surface, such as the underside of a cabinet. A battery source is optionally enclosed in the module for providing primary or secondary power to the lighting assembly. In a preferred embodiment, the battery source is a rechargeable battery that can be recharged by means of an AC adapter that connects to the lighting assembly.
