In a rotary electric machine having a winding and a rectifier arrangement which rotate in unison, the rectifier comprises a plurality of diodes each having a terminal lug extending parallel to the rotor axis, and electrical connections between the winding and rectifier arrangement are provided by connectors which extend between the respective terminal lugs and locations on the winding which are generally diametrally opposite the lugs, whereby the combination of the centrifugal forces on each lug and connector prevents distortion of the lugs.

Rotary electric machines

A constant frequency a.c. generating system includes an alternator driven at a variable speed. A rectifier provides a d.c. supply for a rotary inverter. To maintain the voltage and frequency of the inverter output constant, the frequency is monitored and used to control the alternator field current and the voltage is monitored and used to control the inverter field current in a regulator circuit.

Electrical generating apparatus

A rotary inverter for converting d.c. to a.c. includes a rotary field winding and a stationary armature including two windings. One winding is supplied with d.c. switched in synchronism with the rotation of the field winding. The other winding is electrically isolated from the first mentioned winding but is magnetically coupled thereto and provides the a.c. output. The two windings occupy the same slots in the armature.
