The present disclosure generally relates to displaying visual effects in image data. In some examples, visual effects include an avatar displayed on a user's face. In some examples, visual effects include stickers applied to image data. In some examples, visual effects include screen effects. In some examples, visual effects are modified based on depth data in the image data.

Creative camera

In some implementations, a computing device can generate personalized music selections to associate with any collections of visual media (e.g., photos and videos) stored on the computing device. A user may prefer particular genres of music and listen to some genres more frequently than others. The computing device can create measures of the user's genre preferences and use these measures to select music that is preferred by the user and music that may be significant or relevant to the particular collection of visual media. The computing device may also determine music that was being played when and where the visual media were being created. The computing device may store the visual media and music items in association with each other. The computing device may generate composite media items that combine the visual media and music items. When the visual media are viewed, the selected music item is also played.

Music selections for personal media compositions

Techniques are described to allow a user of a signal editing tool to 'stretch' or 'shrink' a selected portion of a recorded signal to change the length of the selected portion of the signal relative to a particular domain, without stretching or shrinking other parts of the signal. In the context of audio signals, techniques are provided to allow a user to &#x201c;time stretch&#x201d; an audio signal file to change the duration of the stretched portion of the audio. The user may select how the change affects the total duration of the audio signal. Options are provided for &#x201c;shifting&#x201d; the non-selected portion of the signal, or for not shifting the non-selected portion of the signal. When the non-selected portion is not shifted, the signal editing tool automatically generates audio for the gap (for shrinking operations), and automatically deletes audio that overlaps with the stretched portion (for stretching operations).

Techniques for introducing background noise segments into signal data are provided. The background noise segments are constructed from a background noise print extracted from the signal data. The background noise print may be user specified, or automatically identified by the signal editing tool. The background noise print may be stored with, and subsequently loaded as part of, the project associated with a signal. The background noise segments that are generated based on the background noise print may have different durations than the background noise print itself.

Preserving noise during editing of a signal

Tools and techniques are provided to allow the user of a signal editing application to retain control over individual changes, while still relieving the user of the responsibility of manually identifying problems. Specifically, tools and techniques are provided which separate the automated finding of potential problems from the automated correction of those problems. Thus, editing is performed in two phases, referred to herein as the 'analysis' phase and the 'action' phase. During the analysis phase, the signal editing application automatically identifies target areas within the signal that may be of particular interest to the user. During the &#x201c;action&#x201d; phase, the user is presented with the results of the analysis phase, and is able to decide what action to take relative to each target area.

Digital signal visualizations may be displayed with increasing accuracy as the signal data is processed. According to one embodiment, an entire digital signal visualization is displayed as data processing begins. As the digital signal data upon which the visualization is processed, the visualization is refined with increasing accuracy. In one embodiment, a process reads portions of the digital signal data and uses the partial data set to build a visualization of the entire digital signal file. The process continues to read portions of the digital signal data, and uses the additional data to refine the visualization. This process continues until the entire digital signal file is processed and the visualization is displayed with complete accuracy, using all data points.

The invention describes a graphical method for detecting and adjusting audio overload conditions. The graphical user interface provides a user complete playback control of several audio tracks, detection of overload conditions such as audio clipping, and graphical methods to correct the overload conditions. The graphical interface provides drag handles which the user can use to adjust the various characteristics of an audio file. The characteristics, such as amplitude and tempo, may be adjusted as a function of time.

Locating and correcting undesirable effects in signals that represent time-based media

Techniques for changing operations performed relative to digital signal data that represents a recording of a signal are provided. A digital signal data-editing program displays an ordered list of items. Each item in the list corresponds to one or more operations that a user has instructed the program to perform relative to the digital signal data. The order of the items in the list determines the order in which the operations corresponding to those items are performed relative to the digital signal data. In response to user input, the program may perform a change such as inserting a new item into the list, removing an existing item from the list, altering the order of one or more items in the list, etc. The program subsequently modifies the display of the list to reflect the change. The change may be performed without disturbing the last-ordered item in the list.

Random access action list for digital signal data editing

A method and apparatus implement time compression and expansion of audio data, with dynamic tempo change during playback. Dynamic changes in tempo are implemented at specific points in the audio signal corresponding to local minimums in the fade-in and fade-out characteristics of the compression/expansion scheme. An audio signal is marked to define temporal slices of audio data. Mark positions may be selected to minimize significant transient activity midway between consecutive marks. Fade-in and fade-out functions are associated with the leading side and trailing side, respectively, of each mark, creating a series of cross-fading 'mounds' with peaks at each mark. When a tempo change is requested (e.g., a user selects a new tempo value in a user interface), the tempo change is delayed until the start of the next 'mound' (i.e., the next fade-in). Thus, despite the tempo change, each mound uses a contiguous set of audio data, preventing the clicks and pops associated with skips in the audio' data. Cross-fading minimizes any effects of desynchronization caused by overlapping mounds of differing speeds.

An input signal is analyzed and a proposed processing control is output for review. A user may interact with the proposed processing control to change the outcome of the digital signal processing operation. As proposed changes are received, feedback is output so a user may see the results of the proposed operation. Input from a user commits the changes and the new waveform is output.
