A vehicle includes a panel that defines an aperture. The vehicle also includes a cover operably coupled to the panel. The cover is operable between a first condition and a second condition. In the first condition, the cover conceals the aperture. In the second condition, access to the aperture is provided. The vehicle further includes an electrical connector coupled to the cover, such that the electrical connector moves with the cover as the cover moves between the first and second conditions. Movement of the cover from the first condition to the second condition reveals the electrical connector.

A power supply cable including high voltage wires and connectors for a traction motor, charger, upper battery pack and lower battery pack. The power supply cable includes a clamshell shield housing that protects the cable as it is routed over a rear seat pedestal. A two-piece grommet is provided to seal between the passenger compartment and the underbody of the vehicle and includes a rigid attachment ring and a seal that seals the passenger compartment from the environment below the vehicle.

A diesel engine emission control system uses an upstream oxidation catalyst and a downstream SCR catalyst to reduce NOx in a lean exhaust gas environment. The engine and upstream oxidation catalyst are configured to provide approximately a 1:1 ratio of NO to NO2 entering the downstream catalyst. In this way, the downstream catalyst is insensitive to sulfur contamination, and also has improved overall catalyst NOx conversion efficiency. Degradation of the system is determined when the ratio provided is no longer near the desired 1:1 ratio. This condition is detected using measurements of engine operating conditions such as from a NOx sensor located downstream of the catalysts. Finally, control action to adjust an injected amount of reductant in the exhaust gas based on the actual NO to NO2 ratio upstream of the SCR catalyst and downstream of the oxidation catalyst.

Exhaust emission control and diagnostics

A computer controlled diagnostic system is described that monitors catalyst activity of an upstream catalyst using a sensor located downstream of a downstream catalyst. In this way, a system configuration is achieved that allows for diagnosis as well as improved air-fuel ratio control.

Exhaust emission diagnostics

A method and system for diagnosing a condition of an EGR valve used in an engine system. The EGR valve controls the portion exhaust gases produced by such engine system and fed back to an intake of such engine system. The engine system includes a NOx sensor for measuring NOx in such exhaust. The method includes: determining a time rate of change in NOx measured by the NOx sensor; comparing the determined time rate of change in the measured NOx with a predetermined expected time rate of change in measured NOx; and determining the condition of the EGR valve as a function of such comparison. The method also includes: determining from NOx measured by the NOx sensor and engine operating conditions indications of instances when samples of such measured NOx are greater than an expected maximum NOx level for such engine condition and less than an expected minimum NOx level for such engine condition; and determining the condition of the EGR valve as a function of a statistical analysis of such indications. The method includes determining whether the NOx sensor is faulty and wherein the EGR condition determining includes determining whether the NOx sensor is faulty.

System and method for diagnosing EGR performance using NOx sensor

A carbon monoxide sensor placed downstream of the catalytic converter and a temperature sensor placed upstream of the converter in a diesel engine provide information to build a real time CO conversion efficiency versus catalyst temperature curve to determine whether a catalyst has deteriorated beyond a predetermined point with respect to On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) requirements. Pre catalyst CO concentration is inferred from the engine operating conditions, and catalyst temperature is determined using the temperature sensor output and the engine exhaust flow heat transfer model. The real time curve is compared to a reference curve to determine catalyst performance. Catalyst performance with respect to CO conversions can then be correlated to that for HC and NO to meet OBD requirements.

Catalyst monitoring in a diesel engine

A method of monitoring catalyst activity that includes injecting hydrocarbon into the engine exhaust flow sufficient to maintain a constant concentration of reductant into the catalyst under variable engine exhaust flow conditions thereby permitting an accurate calculation of the actual HC conversion by the catalyst, and a determination of whether the catalyst is currently meeting emission regulations.

Diesel OBD-II system for detection of degradation of catalyst activity

An on-board diagnostic method for detecting whether a diesel emissions control system is functioning properly by continuously monitoring the temperature rise generated by the catalyst and the light-off temperature with reference to theoretical values stored in an engine control computer. When either of the parameters falls below a predetermined threshold value, the vehicle emissions may exceed emission standards and, if so, the system causes a malfunction indicator light (MIL) to be energize to advise the driver of the need for service.
