A terminal cassette assembly for a terminal crimping machine includes a cassette housing having a terminal reel chamber holding a terminal reel and a crimp tooling chamber holding crimp tooling with a terminal reel door and a crimp tooling cover, respectively. The crimp tooling includes lower tooling including an anvil and upper tooling including a wire crimper. At least one of the upper tooling and the lower tooling are held in position relative to the terminal crimping machine by the cassette housing when the cassette housing is coupled to the terminal crimping machine.

Terminal cassette assembly

Crimp tooling includes upper tooling for forming a terminal around a wire during crimping. The upper tooling includes a wire crimper and a wire crimper holder for holding the wire crimper. The wire crimper holder is removably coupled directly to a terminator ram of a terminal crimping machine and being driven by the terminator ram. The crimp tooling includes lower tooling assembly for supporting the terminal during crimping. The lower tooling assembly includes a base having a plate and an anvil supported by the plate. The base is removably coupled directly to the terminal crimping machine.

A rotary stripping device for a wire includes a support panel having a wire opening configured to receive an end of the wire and a wire stripper mounted to the support panel. The wire stripper includes an actuating wheel and a blade wheel independently movable relative to the actuating wheel. The wheels have wire openings aligned with the wire opening of the support panel to receive the wire. The wire stripper has a stripper blade held by the blade wheel having a cutting edge configured to engage the wire. The wire stripper has an actuator associated with the actuating wheel operably coupled to the stripper blade to move the stripper blade. The actuator causes the stripper blade to move as the actuating wheel is moved relative to the blade wheel to move the cutting edge of the stripper blade relative to the wire opening in the blade wheel.

Rotary stripping device

A tape dispensing tool includes a hub, a fixed holder arm, and an adjustable holder arm. The hub extends through a core of a roll of tape. The fixed holder arm extends from the hub along a first side of the roll of tape and has a fixed orientation relative to the hub. The fixed holder arm includes a first cradle configured to receive a cable bundle therein. The adjustable holder arm extends from the hub along an opposite, second side of the roll of tape. The adjustable holder arm includes a second cradle configured to receive the cable bundle therein. The adjustable holder arm has an adjustable position relative to the hub and the fixed holder arm to select an angular position of the second cradle relative to the first cradle for setting an overlap amount as the tape is applied to the cable bundle.

A terminal crimping device includes crimp tooling comprising an anvil and a ram movable toward the anvil with a crimp zone being defined between the anvil and the ram configured to receive a wire and a terminal configured to be crimped to the wire by the crimp tooling. An ultrasonic transmitting transducer is coupled to at least one of the anvil and the ram that transmits acoustic signals through the wire and terminal. A filter is provided on at least one of the anvil and the ram in the path of the acoustic signals that affects the acoustic signals.

A terminal crimping machine includes a termination tool having crimp tooling defining a crimping zone that receives the terminal and the wire. The crimp tooling is actuated during a crimp stroke to crimp the terminal to the wire. The terminal crimping machine includes a wire clamp holding the wire near the crimping zone. The wire clamp releases the wire prior to completion of the crimp to allow extrusion of the wire during the crimping process. Optionally, the wire clamp may release the wire prior to bottom dead center of the crimp stroke. The wire clamp may release the wire after the terminal partially retains the wire.

A method is provided for crimping an electrical terminal to an electrical wire having electrical conductors. The method includes positioning the electrical wire and the electrical terminal between opposing crimp tooling members of a crimp tool. The method also includes pressing a crimp barrel of the electrical terminal against the electrical conductors of the electrical wire using the crimp tooling members such that the electrical conductors are mechanically and electrically connected to the crimp barrel. The crimp barrel is pressed against the electrical conductors such that at least some contact portions of metallic surfaces of at least some of the electrical conductors melt and form hot weld bonds with one or more contact portions of the metallic surface of one or more adjacent electrical conductors.

Method and apparatus for crimping an electrical terminal to an electrical wire

A wire positioning device for a termination machine includes a support housing configured to be located proximate to a termination zone of the termination machine. A wire gripping mechanism is coupled to the support housing and defines a wire alignment axis. The wire gripping mechanism is configured to hold a wire along the wire alignment axis. The wire gripping mechanism and wire are movable with respect to the support housing along a linear transfer path that is oriented transverse to the wire alignment axis. An electric actuator is mounted to the support housing and is joined to the wire gripping mechanism. The actuator drives the wire gripping mechanism along the transfer path.

Cable terminating apparatus

An apparatus for inserting terminals carried on a carrier strip into cavities in a housing having a slide assembly with a cam track movable between a first and a second position, and a pivoting lever with a cam follower. The cam follower is positioned in and cooperates with the cam track. The lever is movable between an open and closed position and has first and second shearing blades. An eccentric pin extends through the lever and is attached to a rotary actuator. The eccentric pin is positioned to act as the pivot point for the lever. The rotary actuator is movable between an engaged and disengaged position. As the lever is moved to the closed position, the first shearing blades engage and shear a first portion of the carrier strip. As the rotary actuator moves to an engaged position, the second shearing blade engages and shears a second portion of the carrier strip.

A terminal insertion machine (10) includes a feed unit (14) for feeding a strip (16) of terminals into a workstation (12) for inserting a terminal into a housing. The feed unit (14) includes a feed finger (56) for intermittently feeding the strip and an anti-backup finger (84) for preventing movement of the strip while the feed finger (56) is retracted preparatory to feeding the next terminal. A single release member (100) is arranged to pivot into first, second, and third positions (140, 142, 144) for moving the feed and anti-backup fingers into and out of engagement with the strip of terminals when loading the strip, when operating the insertion machine, and when removing the strip from the insertion machine, respectively.
