A dynamic mixer comprising two mixing parts which are rotatable relative to each other about a predetermined axis of rotation, each of said mixing parts having a mixing face, between which is defined a flow path which extends between an inlet and an outlet, each of said mixing faces comprising a series of annular steps centered on the predetermined axis of rotation, having a plurality of offset and overlapping cavities formed therein, such that material moving between the mixing faces of the two mixing parts from the inlet to the outlet is transferable between overlapping cavities.

Dynamic mixer

A distributive and dispersive mixing apparatus comprising two confronting surfaces () having cavities () therein which on relative motion of the surfaces function as a cavity transfer mixer (CTM) or controlled deformation dynamic mixer (CDDM) or both, CHARACTERISED IN THAT the normal separation of the confronting surfaces varies in the direction of bulk flow, so as to define a plurality of regions of successive closer and wider spacing of the confronting surfaces.

Mixing apparatus of the CDDM- and/or CTM-type, and its use

A milling apparatus in which at least two independently driven axiaily mounted elements are eccentrically mounted one within the other so as to define a processing chamber () therebetween with the minimum radial gap between the elements at one position being diametrically opposite to the maximum radial gap. Stresses are applied to the material by passing it through the minimum radial gap, which is adjustable. The elements may be rotated in the same direction to apply compressive and extensional stresses to material within the minimum gap, or in opposite directions to apply shear stresses to the material within this gap. A third element may be incorporated within the chamber to provide heat transfer and distributive mixing to the stressed material.

Mill and method of milling

A mixing apparatus comprises first and second opposing mixing members rotatable relative to one another about an axis and which have facing surfaces which extend away from the axis and which define a mixing chamber therebetween. Means are provided for rotating at least one of the mixing members to provide relative rotation between the first and second mixing members in a first rotational direction. An array of mixing formations on at least one of said surfaces interact to mix material within the mixing chamber and are configured to propel material within the mixing chamber towards the axis. The number of mixing formations on at least one of the surfaces increases with radial distance from the axis.

Mixer and method of mixing

A dynamic mixer in which two elements are rotatable relative to each other about a predetermined axis and between which is defined a flow path extending between an inlet for materials to be mixed and an outlet. The flow path is defined between surfaces of the elements each of which surfaces defines a series of annular projections () centred on the predetermined axis (). The surfaces are positioned such that projections defined by one element extend into spaces between projections () defined by the other element. At least one cavity is formed in each projection () to define a flow passage bridging the projection in which the cavity is formed. Each of the elements may be generally conical althrough each of the elements could be generally cylindrical or planar, providing projections in the two elements overlap.

Dynamic fluid mixer

Apparatus for mixing a material contained in a vessel comprises one or more flow channels and at least one pair of first and second members which are coaxially mounted one within the other about an axis of rotation such that their facing surfaces curve around the axis defining a chamber therebetween. At least one of the first and second members having a non-circular curvature, the first and second members being rotatable relative to one another about the axis to thereby produce a pumping force to force material through said flow channels. The radially outermost of said first and second members moves to a wall of the vessel relative to stress and displace material present between the mixing apparatus and the wall of the vessel.

Mixing apparatus having a coaxial curved surface producing a pumping action conducive to mixing fluids and solids

A process and apparatus for the mixing of material by means of the combination of sheer-dispersion and/or extensional-dispersion and distributive mixing actions, in which the mixing occurs in one or more stages within stress inducing flow channels between movable members whereby the material is essentially propelled through the flow channels of such stages by pumping actions provided by the relative movement between the members within the mixer itself.

Mixing apparatus

In a mixer comprising a body defining a mixing chamber in which two rotors are rotatably mounted, a processability sensing system is disposed in a port in the body. The system is operative to monitor the flow and deformation characteristics of the material being mixed. It is connected to a feedback control loop which leads to a computerised control operative to control mixing characteristics. This enables mixing to be closely controlled to provide a better product.
