A method of making core-shell and yolk-shell nanoparticles, and to electrodes comprising the same. The core-shell and yolk-shell nanoparticles and electrodes having the same are suitable for use in electrochemical cells, such as fluoride shuttle batteries. The shell may protect the metal core from oxidation, including in an electrochemical cell. In some embodiments, an electrochemically active structure includes a dimensionally changeable active material forming a particle that expands or contracts upon reaction with or release of fluoride ions. One or more particles are at least partially surrounded with a fluoride-conducting encapsulant and optionally one or more voids are formed between the active material and the encapsulant using sacrificial layers or selective etching. When the electrochemically active structures are used in secondary batteries, the presence of voids can accommodate dimensional changes of the active material.

A securement device for securing a catheter includes a retainer, a strap, a first anchor pad and a second anchor pad, a gap separating an edge of the first anchor pad from an adjacent edge of the second anchor pad. The retainer can include a first base member secured to an upper surface of the first anchor pad, a second base member secured to an upper surface of the second anchor pad, and a body coupled to the first and second base members. The body can include a portion spanning the gap separating the first anchor pad from the second anchor pad. The portion of the body can include an open channel through an upper surface of the body, the open channel aligned with the gap. The body can further include a first securement mechanism and a second securement mechanism. The strap can be rotatably coupled to the body.

An apparatus includes a housing coupled to a medicament container, which is coupled to a needle. An injection assembly is disposed within the housing and includes an energy storage member and an actuation rod. A distal end portion of the actuation rod is disposed within the medicament container. The energy storage member can produce a force on a proximal end portion of the actuation rod sufficient to move the distal end portion of the actuation rod within the medicament container. This can convey at least a portion of a substance from the medicament container via the needle when a distal tip of the needle is disposed within a first region of a target location. The force is insufficient to move the distal end portion of the actuation rod within the medicament container when the distal tip of the needle is disposed within a second region of the target location.

Apparatus and methods for ocular injection

A retainer includes a first arcuate wall and a second arcuate wall that together define a channel designed to receive a medical article. The retainer has an open configuration wherein a first end of the first arcuate wall is spaced away from a first end of the second arcuate wall, and a closed configuration wherein the first end of the first arcuate wall is adjacent the first end of the second arcuate wall. A second end of the first arcuate wall opposite the first end of the arcuate wall may be spaced away from the base in the open configuration and pressed against the base in the closed configuration. The retainer also may include a first support and a second support fixed to the base, and a first and second flexible coupling connecting the first and second supports to the first and second arcuate walls.

A medical article, such as a catheter hub or extension set, is stabilized on a patient with a retainer and a dressing integrally attached to an anchor pad supporting the retainer. The catheter hub or extension set may be integrally formed with the retainer. The retainer may comprise a channel and an integral strap. The channel may include an abutment. One or more of the anchor pad, dressing, and catheter may comprise an antibacterial or antimicrobial agent.

A medical article, such as a connector fitting or extension set, is stabilized on a patient with a retainer and a dressing integrally attached to an anchor pad supporting the retainer. The connector fitting or extension set may be integrally formed with the retainer. The connector fitting or extension set may comprise a spin nut configured to secure to a catheter hub having a catheter connected thereto. One or more of the anchor pad, dressing, and catheter may comprise an antibacterial or antimicrobial agent.

A medical device assembly includes a catheter with a catheter hub, a housing, a first wing, and a second wing. The housing surrounds the catheter hub, but is spaced from the catheter hub to define a channel. The first wing includes a first hook disposed in the channel to permit rotation of the first wing about the catheter hub. The second wing includes a second hook disposed in the channel to permit rotation of the second wing about the catheter hub.

A cartridge, including a first member that defines an inner volume and a second member disposed therein, is disposed in a housing. A first reservoir is disposed in the inner volume in a position distal to the second member. The first member is partially disposed in a second reservoir, defined by the housing. The second member is configured to be moved from a first position, in which the first reservoir contains a drug and the second reservoir is fluidically isolated from the inner volume, toward a second position, in which the first reservoir and the second reservoir are in fluid communication with the inner volume, such that the second reservoir receives a volume of the drug from the first reservoir. The first member and the second member are collectively moved relative to the second reservoir to expel the volume of the drug from the second reservoir.

A method of providing airway clearance therapy to a patient includes receiving an expiratory airstream from the patient in a chamber, causing a back pressure to be created in the chamber () in response to receiving the expiratory airstream, causing a one-way valve, such as a magnetic duckbill valve (), located downstream of the chamber to open only in response to the back pressure being at least equal to a certain predetermined level, causing a vibratory effect to be generated downstream of the one-way valve, for example using a vibratory ball check valve (), when the one-way valve is open and in response to the expiratory air-stream passing therethrough, and delivering a percussive sensation to the patient through the chamber responsive to the vibratory effect.
