Herein, a display device, system and method are described for identifying digital content through comparison of one or more audio thumbnails when the digital content is provided without metadata. According to one embodiment, a display device comprises a display, audio conversion logic and a transceiver. The audio conversion logic is adapted to produce one or more audio thumbnails, which are compact representations of a snippet of audio from that incoming digital content without the metadata. The transceiver is adapted to transmit the one or more audio thumbnails in order to (i) retrieve metadata associated with the digital content from an external source separate from a source of the digital content and (ii) display information provided by the metadata on the display.

System and method for audio identification and metadata retrieval

An arrangement is provided where a media server temporarily stores a DRM license that is associated with downloaded media content prior to copying the DRM license to a physical archival medium such as an optical disc. When the media server confirms that the DRM license is successfully copied to the physical archival medium, it destroys the temporarily stored DRM license.

A television and camcorder combination include an acoustic echo canceller and a videoconference protocol stack in order to provide videoconferencing capabilities using only a television in combination with an attached camcorder. Videoconference arrangement

A DRM disk such as a Blu-ray stores content in a high resolution version for playing by a disk player. The disk also stores the same content in a lower resolution version for playing by a secondary device such as a Playstation Portable (PSP). The disk can be engaged with the disk player and the lower resolution format transferred to the secondary player through a mechanism such as a removable medium (e.g., a Sony Memory Stick&#xae;) or a USB connection or other means in accordance with DRM restrictions on the disk.

A system and method for effectively implementing a charging base for a remote control includes a television device that is controlled by the remote control over a wireless RC-TV communications link. The charging base recharges a battery of the remote control when the remote control is docked to the charging base. In addition, the remote control may be docked to the charging base for bi-directionally communicating with the television and other external entities over a wireless base-TV communications link. Furthermore, various compatible peripheral devices may also recharge their batteries and bi-directionally communicate with the television and the external entities over the base-TV communications link while the peripheral devices are docked to the charging base.

System and method for effectively implementing a charging base for a remote control device

A method for identifying video content consistent with certain embodiments involves, selecting a plurality pixels using a pixel selection algorithm, the pixels being selected to provide a repeatable selection of pixels in a selected frame in the video content; establishing a scene signature by: extracting a characteristic of each selected pixel that can be represented in a digital form for each pixel, and generating a digital stream by concatenating the digital form for the extracted characteristic of each pixel; transmitting the scene signature to an identification device for comparison with scene signatures in a database having a plurality of video content items to identify the video content; and receiving either the identification of the video content or an indication that no video content is uniquely identified by the scene signature. A data processing apparatus including a multiplier unit forming a product from L bits of each two data buses of N bits each N is greater than L. The multiplier forms a N bit output having a first portion which is the L most significant bits of the of product and a second portion which is M other bits not including the L least significant bits of the product, where N is the sum of M and L. In the preferred embodiment the M other bits are derived from other bits of the two input data busses, such as the M other bits of the first input data bus. An arithmetic logic unit performs parallel operations (addition, subtraction, Boolean functions) controlled by the same instructions. This arithmetic logic unit is divisible into a selected number of sections for performing identical operations on independent sections of its inputs. The multiplier unit may form dual products from separate parts of the input data. A single instruction controlling both the multiplier unit and the arithmetic logic unit permits addition of dual products. The dual products are temporarily stored in a data register permitting the multiply and add operations to be pipelined. The dual products are formed in one data word and added by a rotate/mask and add operation in a three input arithmetic unit.

A system and method for effectively protecting electronic content information includes a channel setup module that coordinates a channel setup procedure to create a secure communications channel between a content drive and a display module. A source DRM module transmits a special content key from the content drive to the display module over the secure communications channel. A content playback module then initiates a content playback procedure for utilizing the electronic content. The source DRM module responsively encrypts the electronic content with the content key. The channel setup module and the content playback module are unable to access or utilize the content key. A destination DRM module then receives the electronic content over the secure communications channel and utilizes the content key to decrypt the electronic content.

System and method for effectively protecting electronic content information

A dongle for digital rights management protection, in accordance with one embodiment of the present technology, includes a digital right management engine and an encryption/decryption engine. The digital rights management engine is adapted to port digital rights management rules of a source of content to digital rights management rules enforced by the digital rights management engine. The encryption/decryption engine is adapted to re-encrypting the source of content into a managed copy of the content, wherein the managed copy of the content is locked to the dongle.
