System and method for optimizing optical power management along one or more optical channels of an optical communication network (OCN), the OCN comprising a plurality of optical channels. The method comprises accessing a digital twin (DT) of the OCN, receiving a desired optimization instruction to optimize the one or more optical channels in view of at least one operational parameter, executing an optical power optimization module on the DT by simulating application of at least one network configuration of the at least one optical channel, each network configuration having a corresponding predicted optimized level indicative of expected performances of the at least one optical channel of the OCN for the corresponding network configuration. In response to the predicted optimization level of a given network configuration satisfying a criterion, the network configuration is identified as a target network configuration and applied on the OCN.

Method and system for optimizing optical power management over an optical communication network using a digital-twin thereof

A method of managing an optical communications network comprising a plurality of nodes interconnected by optical sections. The method comprises: identifying one or more pairs of adjacent DL-equipped nodes at which dummy light (DL) hardware is deployed, respective dummy light (DL) hardware being deployed at fewer than the plurality of the nodes of the optical communications network, the respective DL hardware deployed at a particular node configured to supply dummy light to each optical section extending from the particular node, and defining a respective single-section DL path between each identified pair of adjacent DL-equipped nodes; identifying one or more pairs of non-adjacent DL-equipped nodes at which DL hardware is deployed, and defining a respective multi-section DL path between each identified pair of non-adjacent DL-equipped nodes; and causing the deployed DL hardware to supply DL light to each of the single- and the multi-section DL paths.

Network service pricing and resource management in a software defined networking environment

Aspects of the disclosure provide systems and methods which avoid the negative effects of Spectral Hole Burning when spectral changes are made for an optical communication system (OCS). Embodiments of the disclosure are directed to methods and systems which preform spectral holes for the range of wavelength channels expected to be used in the OCS. Embodiments include a configurable idle tone source for providing power to each of a set of idle tone wavelengths distributed across the spectral band used in the optical communication system. The configurable idle tone source is communicatively coupled to an output fiber of an optical network element and controlled such that optical power is present in the output optical fiber at each one of the set of idle tone wavelengths.

Method and system for controlling spectral occupancy

Systems and methods are described for network service pricing and service resource management, implemented by a server communicatively coupled to a Software Defined Networking (SDN) network configured to provide the network service. The systems and methods includes receiving a service request for a network service in the SDN network; determining one or more price categories and one or more network resources for the service request, wherein the network resources are selected to instantiate the network service; adjusting a price of the network resources by adjusting the price within a range of the price categories based on current and known future network information of the SDN network; and responsive to acceptance of the price, instantiating the network service through the network resources in the SDN network.

In some embodiments this is achieved by controlling the network to ensure optical power is provided at each of a set of idle tone wavelengths distributed across the spectral band used in the optical communication system. In some embodiments a routing and spectrum assignment function satisfies new service requests while maintaining power to the set of idle tone wavelength functions. In some embodiments a network control function configures Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers to broadcast idle tone wavelengths to provide power to each idle tone in each section.
