A method and an electronic device are provided that include receiving at the electronic device a start and an end of an out-of-office period and an out-of-office preference for responding to new invitations to events occurring during the out-of-office period received at the electronic device, receiving at the electronic device a new invitation to an event occurring during the out-of-office period, and automatically transmitting at the electronic device a response to the new invitation based on the out-of-office preference.

A method and devices for providing secure data backup from a mobile communication device to an external computing device is described. In one embodiment, there is provided a method of backing up data from a mobile communication device, the method comprising: receiving from an enterprise server an information technology (IT) policy message which includes an encryption key; storing the encryption key in a protected memory of the mobile communication device; receiving a request to backup data stored on the mobile communication device; encrypting the data using the encryption key stored in the protected memory; and transferring the encrypted data from the mobile communication device to an electronic device for storage.

The communication device or another electronic device in communication therewith is configured to effect the selected data transmission limiting tactic when the specified data transmission threshold is reached.

A method and devices for providing secure data backup from a mobile communication device to an external computing device is described. In one embodiment, there is provided a method of backing up data from a mobile communication device to an external computing device, the mobile communication device being in communication with the external computing device, the method includes: receiving a request to backup one or more data items stored on the mobile communication device; encrypting a data item using an encryption key stored in a protected memory of the mobile communication device; and transferring the encrypted data item to the external computing device for storage by the external computing device. In a method of sharing location information between a map application and a calendar application, the map application pulls calendar event locations from a calendar event store and presents these calendar event locations as suggested locations for the map application. Likewise, the calendar application pulls map locations from a map location data store and presents these map locations as suggested locations for calendar events. A mobile device configured to communicate with one or more various enterprise services and Internet services. Such services include such features as e-mail, calendar, and personal information management (PIM). The mobile device is configured to maintain a distinction between each of these services by having a number of databases, each database dedicated to a specific service. To facilitate this distinction, a service identifier is generated with respect to each database. When a service is removed, the mobile device no longer has access to the service. In such an instance, the mobile device is configured to maintain the associated database and the service identifier. Should a removed service become reactivated for the mobile device, the maintained database will become re-associated with the proper service by using the service identifier. By distinguishing between databases using the service identifiers, the mobile device may prevent 'cross-pollination' between its databases when synchronizing with different services.

Method of maintaining data collections in a mobile communication device

A method and computing device for processing data are provided. Rule data for visually coding incoming data is stored. First and second profile data are stored, independent of the rule data. Each profile data comprises a respective range of time and a respective recurrence pattern that repeats indefinitely. Each profile data is associated with a respective subset of the rule data. Respective indications are received that first profile data and second profile have been activated. In response, the respective subset is automatically applied during the respective range of time such that incoming data is visually coded at the display device according to the respective subset during the respective range of time. Automatic application of the respective subset during the respective range of time repeats indefinitely according to the respective recurrence pattern until another indication that the respective profile data has been deactivated is received.
