Acylalkylisethionate esters are produced by reacting one or more carboxylic acids with one or more alkyl-substituted hydroxyalkyl sulfonates under esterification reaction conditions. The alkyl-substituted hydroxyalkyl sulfonates used as a raw material in producing the esters are prepared by reacting bisulfate with one or more alkylene oxides. The acylalkylisethionate esters may be used in consumer products.

Acylalkylisethionate esters and applications in consumer products

The present invention provides acylalkylisethionate esters useful in consumer products. The acylalkylisethionate esters are produced by reacting one or more carboxylic acids with one or more alkyl-substituted hydroxyalkyl sulfonates under esterification reaction conditions. The alkyl-substituted hydroxyalkyl sulfonates used as a raw material in producing the esters are prepared by reacting bisulfite with one or more alkylene oxides.

Apparati and methods for generating electricity which comprise in one embodiment a pair of stationary magnets oriented so that their like poles are facing one another with a space between them, and having a stationary length of wire disposed in the space between said magnets of said pair and enabling or causing the passing of a piece of metal through said space sufficient to cause an electrical potential in the wire. Electrical generation apparatus and process

Provided herein are catalysts useful in enabling and promoting the insertion of alkylene oxides into ester linkages. The esters employed as a substrate to be alkoxylated include esters of fatty acids, such as methyl esters of Cto Cfatty acids, and mono-, di-, and tri-esters of glycerine, including vegetable oils, animal fats, and plant oils. A catalyst according to the invention includes at least two alkaline earth compounds, which may include any known stable compounds of the alkaline earths, and optionally contains one or more additional materials such as a carboxylic acid or a polyalkylene glycol having a molecular weight between about 100 and 1500 or a C-Calkyl-capped polyalkylene glycol having molecular weight between about 100 and 1500, which has been acidified with a strong mineral acid. The preferred alkaline earths employed are salts and compounds of magnesium and calcium.

Alkaline earth-based alkoxylation catalysts

Provided are compositions which are suitable for topical application to human skin for cleansing and anti-microbial properties. In one preferred embodiment, the compositions include a glyceryl monoazelate ester. In another embodiment, the compositions include a glyceryl monoazelate monolaurate ester. It is postulated that bacteria on the skin cleave the ester linkage of a compound according to the invention that is applied to the skin, which causes liberation of the acid moiety from the ester, which acid moiety then inhibits or kills the bacterium. Compositions according to the invention may comprise skin creams, soaps, shampoos and lotions, and are especially effective in treating acne and acne-like skin ebullitions. The glyceryl portion of the molecules is believed to facilitate penetration of the ester into the skin.

Provided herein are compositions of matter which contain an agriculturally-active material in combination with an agricultural adjuvant and at least one alkylene carbonate. The presence of an alkylene carbonate in such formulations increases the efficacy of herbicides and pesticides used in controlling unwanted foliage and insects in commercial agriculture.

Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines and more particularly, fuel compositions for 2-cycle internal combustion engines comprising a gasoline, a hydrocarbon-soluble allotropic form of carbon, and a dispersing agent are provided. Engines operated utilizing the fuel compositions provided produce considerably lessened amounts of undesirable exhaust gas emmissions.

Enclosed herein is a process for extracting and concentrating rhodium metal from its ores or from secondary sources which comprises electrolysis of an aqueous solution of halide ions at a selected pH so as to generate a reactive species and causing metallic rhodium or a rhodium-containing mixture to remain in intimate contact with said solution. Rhodium is dissolved by the solution and is obtained in a concentrated form by either subsequent redeposition on the cathode of the cell or by removal of the electrolyte solution as it becomes enriched in ionic rhodium species. Rhodium is conveniently separated from the cathode of the cell or the electrolyte and purified using techniques known to those skilled in the art. The use of extreme reaction conditions, and the need for on-site storage of certain dangerous chemicals are avoided. As a result, health and environmental risks are diminshed, and plant equipment undergoes less corrosion than a prior art. According to the present invention, extraction and concentration of rhodium proceeds at a reasonably fast rate using comparatively milder conditions than those in prior art. The starting materials required are safer to store and handle than methods of prior art, and greater economy is realized from increased control of the reactive species. Since the concentration of reactive species is controlled to near its equilibrium level for a given solution temperature, the use of an excess of reagents is avoided, and fume scrubber requirements are proportionately reduced. Rhodium metal concentrates are obtained.

Process for extraction and concentration of rhodium

The present invention provides a method for producing high density electronic circuit boards comprising the steps of depositing a layer of a first metal upon a layer of foil to produce a composite then attaching the composite to an insulative support to produce a laminate. The layer of foil is then removed from the layer of first metal. Photoresist is then applied to the layer of first metal, exposed and developed. During the development of the photoresist portions of the photoresist are removed from the layer of first metal. A layer of third metal is then plated upon the portions of the layer of first metal that are not covered by the photoresist. All remaining photoresist and the portions of the layer of first metal which are not covered by the third metal are then removed producing a finished fine-line pattern having conductive and insulative areas. The finished fine-line pattern may then be utilized to produce a circuit board.
