Embodiments of the invention relate generally to tissue anchors and methods of delivering same to the intervertebral disc or other sites within the body. In some embodiments, the anchors provide pull-out resistance, stability and/or maximize contact with tissue involving a minimum amount of penetration. In some embodiments, delivery methods are minimally invasive and include linear, lateral, and off-angle implantation or driving of anchors along, against or within tissue surfaces.

Methods of inserting and retaining interbody fusion material are disclosed. In some embodiments, the methods include inserting an anchored implant comprising a bone anchoring portion and an engagement portion. A method may also include inserting at least one bone fusion material within a disc space between two adjacent vertebral bodies. In some embodiments, a method includes driving the bone anchoring portion into an outer surface of at least one of the adjacent vertebral bodies and recessing the bone anchoring portion within the outer surface of the at least one adjacent vertebral body.

Several embodiments disclose anchors and anchoring systems that effectively reconstruct or augment vertebral endplate surfaces.

Methods of providing soft tissue impaction using anchored implants are disclosed. In some embodiments, the soft tissue impaction provided by the anchored implants can facilitate intervertebral disc reconstruction. A method of soft tissue impaction includes displacing soft tissue from within a defective region of an anulus into a nuclear disc space of an intervertebral disc as it is driven within an outer surface of an adjacent vertebral body.

Methods of providing graft impaction using anchored implants are disclosed. In some embodiments, the graft impaction provided by the anchored implants can facilitate surgical spinal fusion procedures. The anchored implants provide increased strength and increased pull-out resistance. The anchored implants can be used in conjunction with various surgical vertebral fusion approaches or techniques, such as anterior, posterior, transforaminal, and/or extreme lateral interbody fusion.

A strut assembly to be used in conjunction with an embolic filtering device has varying strut thicknesses, with the thickness selected based at least in part on the flexing characteristics of the particular portion of the strut assembly. The strut assembly is formed with patterns having flexing portions and stable portions, with the flexing portions contributing to the flexibility of the strut assembly during delivery and recovery in the patient's vasculature. The stable portions remain relatively unflexed and stiff when being delivered or recovered from the patient's vasculature. The stable portions provide strength and increased radiopacity to the strut assembly which is needed when the strut assembly is deployed in the body vessel. The flexing portions act much like a mechanical hinges in providing the needed flexibility to resiliently bend when being delivered through tortuous anatomy of the patient.

A catheter assembly is provided having an inner member and an outer member extending along a longitudinal axis, the inner member and the outer member having a coaxial configuration and dimensioned for relative axial movement. The outer member has a wall defining an opening such as a longitudinal slot; an expanding member such as a leaf spring is connected to the inner member, the leaf spring being adapted to engage with the longitudinal slot so as to maintain rotational alignment between inner member and outer member.
