Advanced card applications are provided to improve payment, security, identification, organization, medical, entertainment and other functionalities. A dynamic magnetic stripe communications device is provided that can dynamically change any information communicated to a magnetic stripe reader. A light sensing device is provided that can receive information optically via visible or non-visible light. Accordingly, a display may communicate information to a light sensing unit. Accordingly, a card is operable to receive data as well as transmit dynamic data.

Advanced card applications

A processor of a card may detect variations (e.g., position, velocity, acceleration and direction) of a read head in relation to the card. Based on certain parameters (e.g., card length, initially detected read head position, and read head velocity) a processor of a card may adjust synchronization bit patterns that may synchronize communications between the card and a read head of a magnetic stripe reader. A processor of a card may generate a number of leading synchronization bits that is different than a number of trailing synchronization bits.

Systems and methods for synchronization mechanisms for magnetic cards and devices

Physical cards may be presented to a mobile device to establish a contactless communication channel between the physical card and the mobile device. Information communicated by the physical card may be received, stored, and used by the mobile device to generate a mobile wallet of virtual cards. Each virtual card in a mobile wallet may, for example, look just like its physical counterpart card and may provide equivalent functionality as its physical counterpart card when selected for use by the mobile device. Virtual cards may be sorted within the mobile wallet based on card category (e.g., payment, identification, or gift card category), card attributes (associations with other virtual cards), card variables (e.g., credit limit or credit available), and user attributes and variables (e.g., the user's current location). Information related to a virtual card (e.g., receipts) may be viewed from a display of the mobile device.

Systems and methods for a mobile electronic wallet

A card may be formed using two or more printed circuit boards. Each printed circuit board may include one or more RFID antennas, RFID chips and a processor. A processor on a board may transfer data to one or more RFID chips on the same board. Alternately, a processor on a board may transfer data to one or more RFID chips on a different board via conductive terminals between boards. Data stored in one or more RFID chips may be erased after being communicated to an RFID device via an RFID antenna or after a configurable timeout period elapses. A card and a mobile device may include more than one RFID antenna to increase efficiency, reliability, and/or a number of data channels that may be communicated.

Systems and methods for contactless communication mechanisms for cards and mobile devices

A payment card is provided with a display. A card may be provided to a user with a number of inactivated products. The products may be assigned to the user at card issuance. A user may then activate these products online or via phone. Accordingly, a user may be provided with a cross-selling platform for new products. Discounts, fee waivers, and/or value may be added to an account when an inactivated product is activated.

A card is provided with a light sensor operable to receive information via light emitted from a display screen or another source of light. Accordingly, a mobile telephonic device or portable computer (e.g., tablet computer) may communicate information to a card via light pulses. Information communicated via light may include, for example, points balances, credit balances, debit balances, transaction history, software updates, coupons, promotions, advertisements or any other type of information.

Systems and methods for cards and devices operable to communicate via light pulsing

A mobile device may receive security credentials from a contactless device via a contactless communication channel to authorize functions that may be performed by the mobile device. For example, purchase transactions may be authorized to be completed by a mobile device after payment information communicated from a physical payment card to the mobile device is confirmed to match at least a portion of payment information stored within a memory of the mobile device. A mobile device may forward the security credentials to a network entity for remote authorization of a requested function.

Audio connectors are provided within a card. The audio connectors may be provided having a height that is compatible with a card (e.g., less than 1 mm or less than 0.5 mm). Communications to and from the card may be provided using the audio connectors within the card.

The invention regards a system and method for using a handheld programming device to configure a lighting control system wirelessly. In one embodiment, at least one device configured with a processing section is installed in the lighting control system. A communications receiver that is operable to receive a signal from the handheld programming device is also installed in the lighting control system, wherein the signal includes an instruction for configuring the lighting control system. Further, the signal is wirelessly sent from the handheld programming device to the communications receiver, and the instruction is transmitted from the communications receiver to a device in the system. The instruction functions to configure the lighting control system.
