Methods and systems for detecting IP route failure using a request-reply protocol, such as address resolution protocol (ARP), and for dynamically re-routing VoIP sessions in a VoIP device in response to failure of an IP route are disclosed. A plurality of IP routes are established between a first VoIP device and a second VoIP device. VoIP sessions are assigned to the IP routes. ARP is used to detect a failure of an IP route. In response to detecting a failure of at least one IP route, VoIP sessions are rerouted from the failed IP route to an alternate IP route.

Methods and systems for measurement-based call admission control in a media gateway are disclosed. A request for establishing a new voice-over-IP (VoIP) call for sending and receiving voice over IP packets in a media gateway is received. The request indicates a required bandwidth for the new call. Bandwidth utilization of at least one Internet protocol (IP) network interface for sending and receiving voice over IP packets in the media gateway is determined. The media gateway determines whether to admit the new VoIP call based on the determined requested bandwidth for the new call and the determined bandwidth utilization for at least one of the IP network interfaces.

Methods and systems for measurement-based call admission control in a media gateway

A distributed architecture computing system includes one or more processors and object-oriented control program for processing request-type and response-type messages provided by a messaging service. The request-type messages are associated with one or more newly requested operations, and the response-type messages are associated with previously requested operations. The control program for the distributed architecture computing system includes a common server object for receiving and processing the request-type and response-type messages, and a specialized factory object for receiving the request-type messages from the common server object and creating a specialized request object for processing each of the request-type messages. Each of the request objects includes process request and process response methods for performing the requested operation, maintaining state information associated with the requested operation and generating the response-type messages. In addition, the control program includes a receive mailbox object associated with the common server object for accessing the request-type and response-type messages bound for the common server object, a send mailbox object associated with the common factory object for sending the response-type messages to the receive mailbox object, and a message object for buffering message data included in the request-type and response-type messages.

A method is disclosed for configuring software for acquiring PM data from telecommunication equipment in response to PM signals generated by the equipment responsive to events, including the steps of maintaining a library of product-independent, event-responsive modules, maintaining product-dependent data relating selected ones of the modules with a plurality of telecommunication equipment systems, and generating event-responsive PM software corresponding to one or more of the telecommunication equipment systems by assembling the modules in accordance with the product-dependent data.

A method is disclosed for packaging and collecting PM data generated in PM data modules having current and previous data banks as a source of PM data during a monitoring interval, including the steps of receiving a demarcation signal from a system timer indicating the expiration of the monitoring interval, sending a signal, responsive to the demarcation signal, to the PM data modules instructing each of the modules to swap data banks, reading the PM data located in the previous data bank representing the monitoring interval, optionally packaging the PM data into a single byte stream, sending an armed and ready message to a controller, receiving a request for bulk transfer of the PM data, transmitting the PM data in one bulk transfer to the controller, and resetting the system timer for a next monitoring interval.
