A lighting system includes a housing, a candle, a discrete light emission point (DLEP), a power source, and a controller. The housing has a cavity, a support surface, and an area that is translucent, transparent, and/or open. The candle is atop the support surface. The DLEP is positioned in the cavity for emitting light through the area. The controller is in communication with the DLEP and the power source to actuate the DLEP. Another lighting system includes a housing, a candle, a plurality of discrete DLEPs, and a power source. The housing has a cavity, a support surface, and an area that is translucent, transparent, and/or open. The candle is atop the support surface. The DLEPs are positioned in the cavity for emitting light through the area. At least one of the DLEPs extends from a lower face of a substrate when the lighting system in in an operating configuration.

Light engine and method of simulating a burning wax candle

A lighting device has a power interface and a control circuit in communication with a program and the LEDs to simulate a flame. The program determines a first group of LED control integers to simulate a perpetual middle with a perpetual middle center and a perpetual middle range within which one or more of the LEDs are to be at least partially actuated. At least one LED is actuated based on the first group of LED control integers. A first target for simulating movement of the perpetual middle center toward the first target and a first acceleration value is defined. The program determines a second group of LED control integers based on the first target and the first acceleration value such that the perpetual middle center becomes closer to the first target. One or more of the LEDs is actuated based on the second group of LED control integers.

Light engine and method of simulating a flame

A lighting device includes a housing having a cavity and a translucent area, a plurality of discrete light emission points (DLEPs) positioned in the cavity for emitting light through the translucent area, a power source, and a controller causing the DLEPs to simulate a burning wax candle. The housing is configured to imitate a wax candle. The controller actuates a first of the DLEPs according to sequential first intensity values, and actuates a second of the DLEPs according to sequential second intensity values. The sequential first intensity values are determined by sequentially combining first change values to an initial first intensity value, and the sequential second intensity values are determined by sequentially combining second change values to an initial second intensity value. Sequential increases/decreases in the first intensity values simulate increases/decreases in optimal flame chemistry, and sequential increases/decreases in absolute value of the first change values simulates increases/decreases in turbulence.

A system and method for lighting effects, including simulating a flame, a spark, or a perpetual middle, is disclosed. One or multiple three dimensional substrates include one or multiple arrays of light sources, such as LED, mounted on or into them. A control circuit can actuate the light sources in a manner to simulate different light effects including rising and contracting sparks within a flame and a center of the flame whose properties adjust to sparks traveling through and above it. The control circuit can further actuate the light sources to simulate a real flame effect by combing a simulated spark and a simulated perpetual middle. This system can include a light engine in a light fixture such as an architectural fixture.

A system and method for lighting effects, including simulating a flame, is disclosed. One or multiple three dimensional substrates include one or multiple arrays of light sources, such as LED, mounted on or into them. A control circuit actuates the light sources in a manner to simulate different light effects including flickering flames of different types of flame fuel and the bending of flames in the wind. This system can include a light engine in a light fixture such as an architectural fixture.

A road flare including a two-sided panel, each side containing a grid of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). In a preferred embodiment one side would include typical white or standard colored LEDs and the other side would include red or other color LED. Each panel has several modes of lighting, which is selectable via a power switch or other switch. The different modes include solid lights, blinking lights, off, or a combination thereof. For example, the red side of the panel may be set to blinking or flashing, while the white side of the panel could be constantly lit. This creates a flashing hazard strobe facing away from a vehicle to warn oncoming vehicles, and a solid white light source aimed towards the vehicle to assist with repairs or other tasks.

Multi-purpose light emitting diode flare

A convertible and folding cooking pan includes a base plate and a plurality of pivotable and adjustable flanges removably coupled thereto. The flanges are moveable from a first substantially flat position to a second substantially upright position. When in the substantially upright position, the flanges are securely connected to define a baking zone with base plate and the flanges. In one embodiment, a plurality of sets of flanges are configured on the base plate to enable the selectable configuration of a first baking zone using the first set of flanges or a second, differently-sized baking zone using the second set of flanges.
