A device for measuring oxygen saturation includes circuitry configured to determine a series resistance for a light emitting diode based on a first diode voltage at the light emitting diode for a first current, a second diode voltage at the light emitting diode for a second current, and a third diode voltage at the light emitting diode for a third current. The circuitry is further configured to determine an intensity of a received photonic signal corresponding to an output photonic signal output using the light emitting diode. A device for measuring oxygen saturation includes circuitry configured to, while applying first current, measure a first forward voltage across the anode of the first light emitting diode and the cathode of the first light emitting diode and, while applying second current, measure a second forward voltage across the anode of the second light emitting diode and the cathode of the second light emitting diode. The circuitry is further configured to determine a measured difference of forward voltage based on a comparison of the first forward voltage and the second forward voltage and determine that the first and second light emitting diodes are valid based on a calibrated difference of forward voltage and the measured difference of forward voltage. In response to the determination that the first and second light emitting diodes are valid, the circuitry is configured to determine an oxygen saturation level.

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and software for measuring and determining physiological parameters of a patient are presented. In one example, a physiological measurement system includes an optical system configured to emit one or more optical signals into tissue of a patient, and detect the one or more optical signals after propagation through the tissue. The physiological measurement system includes a capacitance system configured to apply one or more electric field signals to a single side of the tissue to determine a capacitance signal based at least on changes in the one or more electric field signals, and a processing system configured to process at least the one or more detected optical signals and the capacitance signal to determine a physiological parameter of the patient.

A connector for coupling a medical sensor to a medical monitor includes a first pin coupled and a second pin each electrically coupled to a first LED and to a second LED, respectively, of an emitter of the medical sensor. The measurement system also includes a processing system configured to reduce a noise level in the physiological signal based on at least the capacitance signal.
