A process for producing a lubricating oil basestock having at least 90 wt. % saturates and a VI of at least 105 by selectively hydroconverting a raffinate from a solvent extraction zone in a two step hydroconversion zone followed by a hydrofinishing zone, and a lubricating oil basestock produced by said process.

Hydroconversion process for making lubricating oil basestockes

This invention relates to a lubricating oil composition comprising a base stock and an antioxidant comprising an oil soluble trinuclear organomolybdenum compound of the generic formula: Mo S &mdash;(Q) (1) wherein x is from 4 to 10 and Q is a core group, which may be a ligand, and at least one other compound selected from a phenolic and an aminic compound wherein the basestock has a kinematic viscosity at 100&deg; C. (KV ) from about 2 cSt to 20 cSt (2&times;10 to 20&times;10 m /sec) and a saturates content of at least 85%. The composition has a high oxidation stability, reduced deposit formation and is capable of giving rise to good fuel economy improvement.

Lubricating oil compositions

A process for producing a high VI/low volatility lubricating oil basestock and a lubricating oil basestock prepared by said process. The process comprises subjecting the raffinate from a solvent extraction step to a two step, single stage hydroconversion process wherein the first step involves severe hydroconversion of the raffinate followed by a cold hydrofinishing step.

Smoke reducing additive for two-cycle engine fuel mixture

A process for reducing smoke emitted from a two-cycle internal combustion engine wherein the engine is operated with a lubricant oil-fuel mixture containing certain quaternary ammonium hydroxides. A preferred quaternary ammonium hydroxide is tricapryl methyl quaternary ammonium hydroxide.

Smoke reducing additive for two-cycle engine lubricant-fuel mixture

A lubricant-fuel mixture containing an amine salt and/or amide of a thiobenzoic acid derivative is effective in reducing the smoke emitted during operation of a two-cycle internal combustion engine. A preferred thiobenzoic acid derivative is 4-hydroxy-3,5-ditert-dibutyldithiobenzoate.

Metal palmitates have been found to give excellent antiwear properties to an engine lubricating oil. They are particularly effective when used in a complex with dimethyl sulfoxide.
