A face seal arrangement includes a seal seat rotating with the shaft and a non-rotating face seal including a sealing ring. The sealing ring includes a sealing face biased into contact with the seal seat. The sealing ring also has a groove defined remote from the seal face relative to the seal seat. The groove provides a pressure face that will be exposed to high pressure air outward of the bearing compartment. A coil spring biases the seal housing towards the seal seat, such that the sealing face of the sealing ring is biased into contact with seal seat by air pressure against the pressure face, and the coil spring. A balance ratio is defined between an area of the pressure face and an area of the sealing face, the balance ratio is between 0.5 and 0.64.

A seal support and duct assembly of a gas turbine engine includes a seal support housing disposed about a central axis, a duct housing attached to the seal support housing, the duct housing and the seal support housing defining the seal support and duct assembly, an outer annular cavity, an inlet that supplies the outer annular cavity with cooling buffer air, an inner annular cavity disposed radially inward of the outer annular cavity, a first plurality of outlets that provide the cooling buffer air from the outer annular cavity to the inner annular cavity, and a second plurality of outlets that provide the cooling buffer air from the inner annular cavity to an area surrounding a bearing compartment.

In various embodiments, a lubricating shaft assembly may comprise a shaft, a front seal, a front seat, an inner race, a spacer, a lubricating fitting and a nut. The front seat may define a first portion of a fluid conduit. The front seat may be part of a first load path. The inner race may define a second portion of the fluid conduit. The inner race may be installed about the shaft. The inner race may be part of the first load path. The spacer may define an internal diameter of a third portion of the fluid conduit. The lubricating fitting may be installed about at least a portion of the spacer. The lubricating fitting may define an outer diameter of the third portion of the fluid conduit. The lubricating fitting may be outside the first load path.

Systems and methods for load diversion around load sensitive parts

A disclosed intershaft seal assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a support fixed to a static structure. A first seal housing is supported radially outboard of the support for holding a first seal. A second seal housing is supported radially inboard of the support and supports a second seal. A first biasing member is provided between the support and the first seal housing that biases the first seal housing in a first direction away from the support. A second biasing member between the support and the second seal housing biases the second seal housing in a second direction away from the support.

Compact double grounded mechanical carbon seal

An assembly for gas turbine engine includes a cross-over housing, an inter-shaft seal housing, and a linkage. The inter-shaft seal housing is disposed within the cross-over housing. The linkage is connected to the inter-shaft seal housing and extends through a slot in the cross-over housing. The linkage is removable from both the inner radial housing and the outer radial housing.
