The present invention relates to materials useful for lowering the pour point of wax-containing mixtures of liquid hydrocarbons, as well as compositions of and methods for preparing the same. More particularly, this invention relates to the use in liquid hydrocarbons of OLAC compositions containing units derived from (i) hydrocarbyl(meth)acrylic acid derivatives and (ii) ethylenically unsaturated aliphatic N&#x3b1;-olefin monomers having up to 50 carbon atoms. The OLAC compositions are useful for modifying the fluidity and flow characteristics of liquid hydrocarbons, and more particularly, for improving the pipeline pumpability of liquid hydrocarbons.

Olefin-acrylate polymers in refinery and oilfield applications

The present invention relates to dispersants containing at least two lipophilic groups (e.g., alkenyl-substituted acylating agent, such as, dodecyl succinic anhydride), and the dispersants contain a hydrophilic component (e.g., alkylene glycol, polyalkylene glycol) present in an amount sufficient to at least partially disperse the amphiphilic compound in aqueous media (e.g., 30 wt % to 80 wt %). The invention further provides for dispersants as phosphate, sulphonate, and phosphite derivatives thereof. The invention further provides for the use of the dispersants in tinter compositions (e.g., universal tinter) and reduced shade paints.

Dispersants

A composition of the reaction product of (a) an isobutylene-diene copolymer having thereon groups containing carboxylic acid functionality or reactive equivalent thereof, derived from an &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic compound; and (b) an amine component comprising at least one aromatic amine containing at least one N&#x2014;H group capable of condensing with said carboxylic acid functionality, is a useful dispersant viscosity modifier.

Dispersant viscosity modifiers based on diene-containing polymers

A carboxylic derivative composition derived from a carboxylated isobutylene-polyene copolymer having n ranging from about 200 to about 10,000, said copolymer having thereon from about 0.8 to about 7 moles per mole of copolymer of groups derived from at least one &#x3b1;,&#x3b2;-unsaturated carboxylic acid or reactive equivalent thereof, reacted with at least one of (a) amines characterized by the presence within their structure of at least one condensable H&#x2014;N&#x3c; group, (b) alcohols. Functionalized isobutylene-polyene copolymers and derivatives thereof

A dispersant is prepared from an amine and a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent, wherein the hydrocarbyl substituent is a polymerized olefin having a polydispersity {overscore (M)} /{overscore (M)} of greater than 5. Such polyolefin substituents are prepared by polymerization of olefins in the presence of a calcined catalyst comprising a partially or fully neutralized ammonium salt of a heteropolyacid.

Dispersants prepared from high polydispersity olefin polymers

Polyolefin substituted carboxylic acylating agents having reduced chlorine content of less than 2,000 ppm and a degree of succination of 1.1-2 have been made from polyisobutylene, chlorine and maleic anhydride. The acylating agents are further reacted with amines and/or alcohols to form dispersants having reduced chlorine content.

Low chlorine content compositions for use in lubricants and fuels

Methods are revealed for producing polyolefin substituted carboxylic acylating agents having less than 1000 ppm chlorine, and reaction products formed therefrom such as dispersants. The carboxylic acylating agents are formed by reacting a polyolefin having labile halogen content with an .alpha.-.beta. unsaturated carboxylic acid. The products formed in this invention are used in lubricating compositions.

Conventional low vinylidene polyolefins are condensed with hydroxyaromatics under the influence of macroreticular ion exchange resins in acid form to yield alkylated hydroxyaromatics.

Methods for preparing alkylated hydroxyaromatics

This invention relates to copper-containing organometallic complexes, and to concentrates and diesel fuels containing said complexes. The diesel fuels are useful with diesel engines equipped with exhaust system particulate traps. The copper-containing organometallic complex is used for lowering the ignition temperature of exhaust particles collected in the trap. The copper-containing organometallic complex is soluble or stably dispersible in the diesel fuel and is derived from (i) an organic compound containing at least two functional groups attached to a hydrocarbon linkage, and (ii) a copper-containing metal reactant capable of forming a complex with the organic compound (i). The functional groups are .dbd.X, --XR, --NR., --NO., .dbd.NR, .dbd.NXR, .dbd.N--R*--XR, ##STR1## --CN, --N.dbd.NR or --N.dbd.CR.; wherein X is O or S, R is H or hydrocarbyl, R* is hydrocarbylene or hydrocarbylidene, and a is a number (e.g., zero to about 10). The copper can be combined with one or more metals selected from the group consisting Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, V, Cr, Mo, Fe, Co, Zn, B, Pb, Sb, Ti, Mn and Zr. This invention is also directed to methods of operating a diesel engine equipped with an exhaust system particulate trap using the foregoing diesel fuel.

Copper-containing organometallic complexes and concentrates and diesel

This invention relates to low-sulfur diesel fuels which are useful with diesel engines equipped with exhaust system particulate traps. These fuels contain an effective mount of an organometallic complex to lower the ignition temperature of exhaust particles collected in the trap. The sulfur content of these diesel fuels is no more than about 0.1% by weight, preferably no more than about 0.05% by weight. The organometallic complex is soluble or stably dispersible in the diesel fuel and is derived from (i) an organic compound containing at least two functional groups attached to a hydrocarbon linkage, and (ii) a metal reactant capable of forming a complex with the organic compound (i), the metal being any metal capable of reducing the ignition temperature of the exhaust particles. The functional groups include .dbd.X, --XR, --NR.sub.2, --NO.sub.2, .dbd.NR, .dbd.NXR, .dbd.N--R*--XR, ##STR1## --CN, --N.dbd.NR and --N.dbd.CR.sub.2 ; wherein X is O or S, R is H or hydrocarbyl, R* is hydrocarbylene or hydrocarbylidene, and a is a number (e.g., zero to about 10). Useful metals include Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ti, Zr, V, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, B, Pb, Sb, and mixtures of two or more thereof. This invention is also directed to methods of operating a diesel engine equipped with an exhaust system particulate trap using the foregoing low-sulfur diesel fuels.

This invention relates to low-sulfur diesel fuels which are useful with diesel engines equipped with exhaust system particulate traps. These fuels contain an effective amount of an organometallic complex to lower the ignition temperature of exhaust particles collected in the trap. The sulfur content of these diesel fuels is no more than about 0.1% by weight, preferably no more than about 0.05% by weight. The functional groups include .dbd.X, --XR, --NR.sub.2, --NO.sub.2, .dbd.NR, .dbd.NXR, .dbd.N--R*--XR, ##STR1## --CN, --N.dbd.NR and --N.dbd.CR.sub.2 ; wherein X is O or S, R is H or hydrocarbyl, R* is hydrocarbylene or hydrocarbylidene, and a is a number (e.g., zero to about 10). Useful metals include Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ti, Zr, V, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, B, Pb, Sb, and mixtures of two or more thereof. This invention is also directed to methods of operating a diesel engine equipped with an exhaust system particulate trap using the foregoing low-sulfur diesel fuels.

This invention relates to combinations of (A) organometallic complexes and (B) antioxidants. These combinations can be used in diesel fuels for operating diesel engines equipped with exhaust system particulate traps. The combination of (A) and (B) is useful in lowering the ignition temperature of exhaust particles collected in the trap.
