A pocketed spring, such as that used in a mattress, comprises: a compression spring having an upper end convolution and a lower end convolution opposite the upper end convolution, and a plurality of helical intermediate convolutions between the upper end convolution and the lower end convolution; a flexible enclosure including a top wall positioned adjacent to the upper end convolution of the compression spring, a bottom wall positioned adjacent to the lower end convolution of the compression spring, and a side wall that extends from the top wall to the bottom wall; and a tension member connected to the flexible enclosure. The tension member acts in opposition to the compression spring until the pocketed spring is compressed to a point at which the tension member no longer applies any force. Thus, the pocketed spring exhibits a non-linear response when compressed.

Non-linear springs and mattresses including the same

Methods of attaching a drum head to a drum body. Lug assemblies may include a lug body having a recess and a seating surface; an elongate link having a proximate end disposed near the drum head and a distal end disposed away from the drum head. A stop assembly is adjustably coupled to the link. The stop assembly constrains the link distal end from movement toward the drum head when the stop assembly engages the link and bears against the seating surface. Engagement surfaces constrain rotation of the stop assembly and thereby allow the stop assembly to be loosened, i.e., moved toward the link distal end, when the stop assembly is too shallowly disposed on the link. The stop assembly may be inserted into the recess from a direction that is generally tangential to a periphery of the drum body.

Securing drum head to drum body with quick-action drum lug assemblies

Lug assemblies and associated methods of attaching a drum head to a drum body. The lug assembly may comprise a lug body having a seating surface; an elongate link having a proximate end disposed proximate the drum head and a distal end disposed distal from the drum head; a stop assembly adjustably coupled to the link. The stop assembly constrains the link distal end from movement toward the drum head when the stop assembly engages the link and bears against the seating surface. Engagement surfaces constrain rotation of the stop assembly and thereby allow the stop assembly to be moved toward the link distal end when the link proximate end is closer to the stop assembly than the seating surface. The stop assembly may be inserted into the recess from a direction that is generally tangential to a periphery of the drum body.

Quick action drum lug assembly and method

A mesh generation tool that is programmatically integrated with a system-level design and simulation environment, thereby enabling the direct generation of PDE solver input from a system-level design and simulation environment and a method for using the mesh generation tool are disclosed. Automatic mesh generation and optimization is improved by making available additional information about the nature and purpose of certain design components to the mesh generation tool. Specifically, the parameters of the components in the device schematic, which represent a user-defined decomposition of a larger MEMS design into smaller entities of clear physical purpose, are made available to the mesh generation tool. The link established between the system-level design and PDE analyses allows the user to move between the two levels of abstraction. The mesh generation tool retrieves information from the components and connectors of a schematic of a MEMS device, and produces a discrete element model suitable for numerical PDE analysis by the finite element (FEM) and boundary element (BEM) methods. A direct link from a schematic model to a mesh model helps the user to produce an optimal mesh for PDE analysis, thereby avoiding considerable unnecessary computation.
