A system comprises a first robotic arm adapted to support and move a tool and a second robotic arm adapted to support and move a camera configured to capture an image of a camera field of view. The system further comprises an input device, a display, and a processor. The processor is configured to display a first synthetic image including a first synthetic image of the tool. The first synthetic image of the tool includes a portion of the tool outside of the camera field of view. The processor is also configured to receive a user input at the input device and responsive to the user input, change the display of the first synthetic image to a display of a second synthetic image including a second synthetic image of the tool that is different from the first synthetic image of the tool.

Synthetic representation of a surgical robot

Wearable devices are provided herein including wearable defibrillators, wearable devices for diagnosing symptoms associated with sleep apnea, and wearable devices for diagnosing symptoms associated with heart failure. The wearable external defibrillators can include a plurality of ECG sensing electrodes and a first defibrillator electrode pad and a second defibrillator electrode pad. The ECG sensing electrodes and the defibrillator electrode pads are configured for long term wear. Methods are also provided for using the wearable external defibrillators to analyze cardiac signals of the wearer and to provide an electrical shock if a treatable arrhythmia is detected. Methods are also disclosed for refurbishing wearable defibrillators. Methods of using wearable devices for diagnosing symptoms associated with sleep apnea and for diagnosing symptoms associated with heart failure are also provided.

Wearable devices

Methods for preventing contamination of an endoscope may include coupling a sheath device to cover both the inside and outside of the endoscope. The sheath device may include a rigidizing flexible tubular external sheath that extends over the endoscope to form an external protective barrier, a tubular internal sheath that extends within a lumen of the endoscope that forms an internal protective barrier, and a cap sealed to both the external sheath and the internal sheath. The sheath may be rigidized to enhance insertion.

Methods of attaching a rigidizing sheath to an endoscope

A system comprises: a robotic arm operatively coupleable to a tool comprising a working end; and an input device communicatively coupled to the robotic arm. The input device is manipulatable by an operator. The system further comprises a processor configured to cause an image of a work site, captured by an image capture device from a perspective of an image reference frame, to be displayed on a display. The image of the work site includes an image of the working end of the tool. The processor is further configured to determine a position of the working end of the tool in the image of the work site and render a tool information overlay at the position of the working end of the tool in the image of the work site. The tool information overlay visually indicates an identity of the input device.

Rendering tool information as graphic overlays on displayed images of tools

An illustrative method may include receiving images of a site captured at a same time by a camera, the images comprising a single visible color component image, a first non-visible image associated with first excitation illumination having a first wavelength outside a visible spectrum, and a second non-visible image associated with second excitation illumination having a second wavelength outside the visible spectrum and different than the first wavelength; generating, based on the single visible color component image, a monochromatic image; generating, based on the single visible color component image and the first non-visible image, a first alternate image representative of a first alternate imaging characteristic of the site; generating, based on the single visible color component image and the second non-visible image, a second alternate image representative of a second alternate imaging characteristic of the site; and displaying the monochromatic image combined with the first and second alternate images.

Methods and systems for alternate image display

A LUS robotic surgical system is trainable by a surgeon to automatically move a LUS probe in a desired fashion upon command so that the surgeon does not have to do so manually during a minimally invasive surgical procedure. A sequence of 2D ultrasound image slices captured by the LUS probe according to stored instructions are processable into a 3D ultrasound computer model of an anatomic structure, which may be displayed as a 3D or 2D overlay to a camera view or in a PIP as selected by the surgeon or programmed to assist the surgeon in inspecting an anatomic structure for abnormalities. Virtual fixtures are definable so as to assist the surgeon in accurately guiding a tool to a target on the displayed ultrasound image.

Laparoscopic ultrasound robotic surgical system

A medical robotic system includes a viewer for displaying an image of a work site, a gaze tracker for tracking a gaze point of a user on the viewer, and a processor. The processor is configured to: draw an area or volume defining shape, overlaid on the image of the work site, in a position determined by the gaze tracker; assign a fixed virtual constraint to the shape and constrain movement of a robotic tool according to the fixed virtual constraint; receive a user selected action command selecting an image of patient anatomy; and superimpose the selected image of the patient anatomy over the image of the work site within the shape. The selected image of the patient anatomy is registered to the image of the work site.

Apparatuses and method for determining if an endoscope is contaminated may include a sheath device to cover both the inside and outside of the endoscope. The sheath device may include a flexible tubular external sheath that extends over the endoscope to form an external protective barrier, a tubular internal sheath that extends within a lumen of the endoscope that forms an internal protective barrier, and a cap sealed to both the external sheath and the internal sheath, and a proximal sealing collar that is configured to allow the space between the endoscope and the external and/or inner sheaths to be pressurized to detect leaks indicating contamination.

Apparatuses and methods for determining if an endoscope is contaminated

A robotic system may comprise a first robotic arm operatively coupleable to a first tool. The first tool has a first working end. The system may also comprise an image capture device, a display, and a processor. The processor may be configured to cause an image of a work site, which was captured by the image capture device from a perspective of an image reference frame, to be displayed on the display. The image of the work site includes an image of the first working end of the first tool. The processor may also determine a position of the first working end of the first tool in the image of the work site and render a tool information overlay at the position of the first working end of the first tool in the image of the work site. The tool information overlay visually indicates state information for the first tool. The processor may also change the tool information overlay while the first tool is in a first operational state by changing a brightness of the tool information overlay.

A medical robotic system includes a viewer, a gaze tracker, and a processor programmed to: draw an area or volume defining shape overlaid on an image based on the tracked gaze point after the user has gazed on the tracked gaze point for a programmed period of time; in response to receiving a user-selected action command, assign a fixed virtual constraint to the area or volume defining shape and constrain movement of a robotic tool; map points of the robotic tool in a tool reference frame to a viewer reference frame; determine a closest object to the tracked gaze point is the robotic tool based at least in part on the mapped points; display an object including text identifying the robotic tool, overlaid on the image, proximate to the robotic tool based on determining the robotic tool is the closest object; and perform an action indicated by the object.

An exemplary method includes receiving images of a site captured at a same time by a camera, generating, based one or more of the images, a monochromatic image, generating, based on one or more of the images, an alternate image representative of an alternate imaging characteristic of the site, and displaying the displaying the monochromatic image combined with the alternate image, the alternate image being highlighted relative to the monochromatic image.

In one embodiment, a force sensor apparatus is provided including a tube portion having a plurality of radial ribs and a strain gauge positioned over each of the plurality of radial ribs, a proximal end of the tube portion that operably couples to a shaft of a surgical instrument that operably couples to a manipulator arm of a robotic surgical system, and a distal end of the tube portion that proximally couples to a wrist joint coupled to an end effector.
