A support core for an elastic sleeve comprises a first cylindrical section disengagably connected to a second cylindrical section. Each cylindrical section has an annular sidewall made up of a plurality of interlocking concave plates extending longitudinally along a portion of the support core between a abutment end and a distal end. The abutment end of each cylinder section includes a generally helical edge. The plurality of concave plates comprises a top and bottom surfaces, having two opposing longitudinal edges extending between said surfaces on opposite sides of the concave plate. Each of the longitudinal edges comprises an interlocking feature that configure to connect to a mating feature of at least one other concave plate to form one of cylindrical sections of the support core.

Support core for an elastic sleeve

An assembly for covering at least a portion of a cable, such as an electric cable, comprises an elastomeric tube and a hybrid support core structure. The hybrid core structure includes a central core structure formed from a spirally wound separable ribbon that supports a central portion of the elastomeric tube in a radially expanded state, and first and second solid end core structures that support first and second end portions of the elastomeric tube in a radially expanded state. Each solid end core structure has a film disposed on at least an inner surface thereof having a coefficient of friction less than or equal to 0.05.

A tubular stress control article having an axial bore with a length comprises a first and innermost layer formed from an electrical stress control composition having a filler material comprising nanosilica-modified inorganic particles and a discontinuous arrangement of conductive material dispersed in an elastomeric material. At least a portion of the conductive material is in durable electrical contact with the inorganic particles. The article further comprises a second layer disposed on the first layer, the second layer comprising an electrical insulation material. The article also comprises a third layer disposed on the second layer, the third layer comprising an elastomeric stress control material. The article further comprises a fourth layer disposed on the third layer, the fourth layer comprising a track-resistant elastomeric material. Each of the first, second, third, and fourth layers are substantially continuous along the length of the axial bore.

A pressure restraining enclosure for cables can include, for example, a first cable including a conductor and an oil-containing layer surrounding the conductor, and a second cable having a conductor. A splice can connect the conductor of the first cable with the conductor of the second cable. A pressure restraining sleeve can overly the splice and the conductors of the first and second cables. Several fasteners can be applied to several locations on the pressure restraining sleeve to tighten the pressure restraining sleeve around the splice and portions of the first and second cable. Embodiments of the pressure restraining enclosure can be used in the form of a sleeve on a single core cable, or alternatively as a body and a separate sleeve on multiple core cables such as three-core cables.

A cable has a conductor extending therefrom and a partially exposed fluid-containing layer surrounding the conductor. A connector is joined to an end of the conductor, and an electrically insulative, elastomeric tube is covers all of the exposed fluid-containing layer and a portion of the connector. The elastomeric tube is substantially impermeable to the fluid in the cable. For cables having more than one conductor, an additional elastomeric boot is installed over the cable.

A molded article for protecting a transition section of a multi-wire cable. The article includes a transition cover having an elastomeric skin and further including a cable receiving tube, having an open channel therein. The cable receiving tube has intersection with each of a plurality of wire cover sleeves to provide passage openings from the open channel of the cable receiving tube to each of the plurality of wire cover sleeves for insertion of at least one wire of the multi-wire cable therein. A stress relief pocket formed in the elastomeric skin, adjacent to at least a portion of each intersection, extends towards the open channel and includes at least one crease to accommodate expansion of the stress relief pocket from a partially folded condition to reduce the concentration of stress at an intersection during movement of the transition cover from a relaxed condition to a stretched condition.

A tool for expanding elastic tubes which may then be placed around wires or cables. The tool includes three arms terminating in three parallel, elongated tips. Two of the arms are pivotally attached, while the third is retractably coupled to the first two. An elastic tube is positioned over all three tips when they are in close contact. When the handles of the tool are squeezed, all three tips separate, thereby expanding the tube. The tool may be used to apply insulating covers to cable splices, or for marking terminal connections with color-coded tubes.
