A hybrid energy storage module system includes a first power stage having a short circuit switch to connect the first power stage to a power bus, a second power stage stacked in series with the first power stage and having a short circuit switch to connect the second power stage to the power bus, and a controller. The controller is operably connected to the first and second power stage short circuit switches to discharge one of the first and second power stage through the other of the first and second power stage in a state of charge balancing mode. Aircraft electrical systems and methods of controlling connectivity of hybrid energy storage modules to electrical systems are also described.

Hybrid energy storage module systems and methods of discharging energy storage modules

An energy storage module (ESM) assembly, ESM and method of balancing current flow on a direct current bus are provided. The ESM assembly includes a bidirectional DC-DC converter, an ESM having first and second energy cell strings connected in parallel relative to one another and configured to be connected to respective inputs of the bidirectional DC-DC converter. The ESM is configured to absorb current from the bidirectional DC-DC converter when the bidirectional DC-DC converter is operated in a buck mode. The ESM is configured to source current to the bidirectional DC-DC converter when the bidirectional DC-DC converter is operated in a boost mode.

Energy storage modules with parallel energy storage module architectures

Provided are embodiments of a system for split power-control electronics with fiber-optic multiplexing. The system includes one or more power electronics modules configured to provide power to a load, and a control card configured to control the one or more power electronics modules. The system also includes a control module configured to receive and process the control card, and one or more connections, the one or more connections configured to connect a control module to the one or more power electronics modules. Also provided are embodiments of a method for operating power electronics modules in a redundant mode.

Method for monitoring gate drive signals for power module aging effects

Embodiments herein relate to a reconfigurable three-phase rectifier/converter drive. The drive includes a three phase input connection configured for connection to a three phase alternating current power source, a three-phase rectifier bridge operably connected to the three phase input connection, a plurality of a capacitors, configurable as a filter, and a positive and negative output terminal connected to and configured to supply a load. The three-phase rectifier/converter drive is configurable by selected connections with at least one positive rail adaptor plate, at least one negative rail adaptor plate, and at least one of filter bus adapter plate as two independent drives supplying independent loads, two drives in series supplying a common load, or two drives in parallel supplying a common load.

A power converter may comprise a magnetic core, a transformer primary winding configured to generate a magnetic field in the magnetic core, and a transformer secondary winding matrix. The transformer secondary winding matrix may comprise a plurality of secondary windings configurable between various electrical connections relative to one another (e.g., in series or in parallel) to adjust a voltage conversion ratio of the power converter.

A hybrid energy storage module includes a bus lead and two or more high-power modules connectable to the bus lead. A controller is operably connected to a first of the high-power modules and a second of the high-power module. The controller has a pulse mode, where the first high-power module is connected to the bus lead. The controller also has an extended mode, where both the first high-power module and the second high-power module are connected to the bus lead.

An electrical accumulator arrangement includes a plurality of energy storage modules having source and return leads. The source lead of a first energy storage module is connected to the return lead of a second energy storage module. A system for filtering mechanically-induced signal noise from a speed sensor may include a rotating member having at least one target group radially oriented about a center of the rotating member, an inductive speed sensor configured to sense the at least one target group, and two diode pairs each having a first diode and a second diode. The two diode pairs may be operatively connected to the inductive speed sensor and configured to receive a signal having the mechanically-induced signal noise. The system may also include a resistor connecting the diode pairs, a processor connected in parallel with the resistor and configured to receive a signal from the inductive speed sensor. The processor may be configured to receive a signal having reduced signal noise via the diode pairs, and determine a rotational speed of the rotating member based on the signal having reduced signal noise.

A phase leg for a multilevel inverter includes a positive DC lead, a first outer MOSFET connected to the positive DC lead, a first inner IGBT connected to the first outer MOSFET, a second inner IGBT connected to the first inner IGBT, and a second outer IGBT connected to the second inner IGBT. The first and second outer MOSFETs are superjunction MOSFETs voltage balanced by the first and second IGBTs for reducing voltage stress in the solid-state switch phase leg when the superjunction MOSFET and the IGBT are conducting current from the DC lead to the AC lead.

According to one aspect, a resolver-to-digital converter includes a first filter configured to receive a first delta-sigma modulated resolver input. A second filter is configured to receive a second delta-sigma modulated resolver input. A summing junction is configured to output a difference between a scaled output of the first filter and a scaled output of the second filter. A controller is configured to generate a controller output based on a product of a demodulator and an output of the summing junction. An integrator is configured to generate an estimated position based on the controller output. The resolver-to-digital converter also includes a compensator configured to generate a compensated estimated position based on the controller output and a compensation offset delay adjustment.

Resolver-to-digital converter

A speed sensor includes a magnetic pickup generating a cyclical output based upon passing teeth of a rotating gear. A counter counts the number of clock pulses that are generated during a measurement period of the cyclical output. The measurement period, in terms of cycles of the cyclical output, is varied based upon the number of pulses that were counted in a previous measurement period. Thus, at lower speeds, the number of clock pulses generated during fewer cycles is counted, while at higher speeds the number of clock pulses generated during more cycles is counted.
