A method and apparatus for protecting regions of an electronic document are provided. According to the method, the entire electronic document is protected. The selection of a region within the electronic document is received along with identity of one or more users authorized to freely edit the selected region. The identified users are authorized to freely edit only the selected region of the electronic document. A request is then received to edit a region of the electronic document from a current user. In response to the request, a determination is made as to whether the current user is authorized to edit the region. If the user is not authorized to edit the region, the request is denied.

Method and apparatus for protecting regions of an electronic document

A cloud-based broker service may be provided for computing devices in a distributed computing environment. The broker service may aggregate user accounts and user account credentials utilized for accessing online services by the computing devices. The broker service may monitor a context of the computing devices associated with the user accounts. The broker service may then utilize the context, data associated with the user accounts and data associated with the user account credentials to automate tasks and/or provide alerts associated with the data.

A system (and corresponding method) that employs wiki-type models to consider authoring rather than composition in an application environment is provided. The innovation enables collaborative information and templates to be used to enhance quality, productivity, etc. within a software application environment. These wiki-type models can provide features, functions and benefits related to, but not limited to, general information, auto-fills, formats, schema, conversions, preferences, etc.

Techniques for managing a presentation of information in a gesture-based system, where gestures are derived from a user's body position or motion in the physical space, may enable a user to use gestures to control the manner in which the information is presented or to otherwise interact with the gesture-based system. A user may present information to an audience to an audience using gestures that control aspects of the system, or multiple users may work together using gestures to control aspects of the system. Thus, in an example embodiment, a single user can control the presentation of information to the audience via gestures. In another example embodiment, multiple participants can share control of the presentation via gestures captured by a capture device or otherwise interact with the system to control aspects of the presentation.

Concepts and technologies are described herein for transforming data into consumable content. In accordance with the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, a computing device can execute a transformation engine for transforming data into the consumable content. The computing device can be configured to analyze the data to identify relationships within data elements or other portions of the data. The computing device also can determine a visualization model to apply to the data and to choose a world based upon the determined visualization model. The computing device can obtain rules associated with the selected or chosen world, and can apply the rules to the data to generate the output. In some embodiments, the computing device can be configured to obtain and apply feedback to the output.

Transforming data into consumable content

A location enhanced meeting service ('LEM Service') may provide a geographical based map indicating meeting locations for a selected day. The user can view locations of meetings for a scheduled day, along with travel times. Conditions impacting travel time may be provided to the user along with updated estimated travel times and suggested alternative routes. The scale of the map may be based on the geographical diversity of the attendees. A user can view a location enhanced meeting map for particular meeting, and obtain directions to the meeting. The user can also request to view attendee's locations to the meeting on the map prior to the meeting. If an attendee is expected to be late, the user may establish a voice conference with that attendee. If a user is expected to be late to a meeting, the user may provide a notification to the other attendees of the meeting.

Location enhanced meetings and collaboration

Determining and applying format attributes associated with content in an electronic document that is cut or copied from an electronic document and pasted into the same or different electronic document. The determination may be based on the format attributes of the content within a region of an electronic document containing the cut or copied content and the format attributes of a region of content that includes the location where the cut or copied text may be pasted. Local formatting may be associated with the source region of content and the destination region of content. Direct, or emphasis formatting, may be associated with content that has been cut or copied.

Context based menus are employed for content management through touch or gesture actions, keyboard entries, mouse or pen actions, and similar input. Context based menus may be deployed using a variety of shapes, forms, and content. Different actions and combinations of actions enable users to activate submenus, execute commands, or collapse context based menus. By enabling viewing of menus and execution of commands through context based menus positioned in relation to displayed content user experience is enhanced when interacting with user interfaces with limited display area.

Concepts and technologies are described herein for creating variations when transforming data into consumable content. In accordance with the concepts and technologies disclosed herein, a computing device can execute a transformation engine for transforming data into the consumable content. The computing device can be configured to analyze the data to identify relationships among data elements or other portions of the data, and to identify any possible approaches to transforming the data ('worlds') based upon the relationships and the data. The worlds can be ranked and selected based upon rank. The computing device can obtain rules associated with the selected and apply the rules to the data to generate the output. In some embodiments, the computing device can be configured to obtain and apply feedback regarding the world selection.

Creating variations when transforming data into consumable content

A framework for enabling a community of users to share help information about an application program. The framework includes a mechanism for users to generate and share help information and a mechanism for users to access help information created by other users. To generate help information, tools may be incorporated into an application to enable users to capture information about the application as they are performing functions. Those tools capture as a video clip a representation of screen displays created by the application as the user interacts with the application to perform a function about which help information is to be generated. Along with the scenes captured in the video clip, application context information and explanatory material, such as an audio narration, can be captured. The mechanism to access help information includes a server to which video clips can be posted and cataloged, allowing identification of clips in response to user input describing a required help topic.
