A reamer device is used in the preparation of the fibula prior to the placement of an intramedullary nail. The reamer device features one or more indicating grooves on its cutting edges. These grooves can be visualized radiographically during reaming to confirm depth for the placement of syndesmotic implants through the intramedullary nail.

An improved tibial plateau leveling osteotomy plate is contoured in its proximal head portion to more closely resemble the structure of the tibial bone segment that is cut and rotated during the procedure. The plate also preferably has screw holes in the proximal head portion that are machined through the pre-contoured proximal head portion and are designed to angle the screw in a targeted screw path with respect to the osteotomy.

Embodiments herein provide an ultrasonic treatment device that includes a transducer holder to hold an ultrasonic transducer. The transducer holder includes multiple mounting positions for the ultrasonic transducer to enable the transducer to be held by the transducer holder at different angles. For example, in some embodiments, the transducer holder may include multiple mounting elements on an interior surface of the transducer holder. The mounting elements may be, for example, ridges or grooves on the interior surface. The transducer may include and/or be provided with one or more locking elements that interact with the mounting elements of the transducer holder to hold the transducer within the transducer holder. Other embodiments may be described and claimed.

An improved tibial plateau leveling osteotomy plate is disclosed. An apparatus for locating a curvilinear cut in a bone comprises a jig body and a first arm, a top end of which is rotatably coupleable to a first portion of the jig body in combination with a second arm, a top end of which is rotatably coupleable to a second portion of the jig body separated from the first portion and a saw guide rotatably coupleable to the first arm, the saw guide including a bottom surface extending along a curve corresponding to a desired path through which a bone is to be cut, the saw guide including a locking feature receiving a bone fixation element which, in an operative configuration, is mounted in the bone to align the saw guide relative to the arm so that an operator may precisely align a desired axis of the saw guide with a longitudinal axis of the first arm.

The present invention relates to a surgical chisel for removing a section of bone. The surgical chisel includes a body having a cannulation which extends from the distal end of the body through at least a portion of the body and is configured and dimensioned to receive a guide wire; and a blade attached to the distal end of the body and having a sharp edge for impacting bone. Introducing the guide wire into the cannulation guides the chisel to the section of bone to be removed. The present invention also relates to a method of removing a section of bone with a chisel. The method includes the steps of inserting a portion of a guide wire into a bone; guiding the chisel blade to the section of bone along the guide wire; and impacting the chisel blade into the bone to remove a section thereof.

A device and method for the insertion and removal of an internal fracture fixation implant are disclosed. The device includes a slide rod having a tubular body with first and second ends and a bore for receiving the implant, a securing element located on the first end of the slide rod for maintaining the implant in the bore, a handle on the second end of the slide rod for manipulation of the device, and a slap hammer having a body member configured and dimensioned to be releasably and slideably connected to the slide rod so that displacement against the securing element results in impaction while displacement against the handle results in extraction of the implant. Removing the slap hammer from the slide rod when it is not needed facilitates use of the device. In a preferred embodiment, the slap hammer has a grip and the slap hammer body member has a channel for receiving the slide rod and at least one retaining element for maintaining the slide rod in the channel. Preferably, the grip is pivotally connected to the body member of the slap hammer to increase the handling of the device. The securing element can be a keyless chuck that has a variable opening that accommodates implants having diameters ranging from 0.6 to 6 mm. Although the chuck can be tightened or loosened by hand, slots on the chuck allow tool-assisted tightening or loosening.
