A vehicle agnostic removable pod can be mounted on a vehicle using one or more legs of a pod mount. The removable pod can collect and time stamp a variety of environmental data as well as vehicle data. For example, environmental data can be collected using a sensor suite which can include an IMU, 3D positioning sensor, one or more cameras, and/or a LIDAR unit. As another example, vehicle data can be collected via a CAN bus attached to the vehicle. Environmental data and/or vehicle data can be time stamped and transmitted to a remote server for further processing by a computing device.

Aspects of the present invention provide systems and methods for distributed signal processing of indoor localization signals wherein statistical algorithms and machine learning are used in place of a fingerprint map. The disclosure relates to calculation of angle and distance based on measurements of an indoor localization signal, followed by energy-efficient distribution of signal processing. Local signal processing is performed using any of multiple eigen structure algorithms or a linear probabilistic inference, before cloud-based signal processing is performed using a nonlinear probabilistic inference and machine learning that's been trained with historical data transmitted by the base stations and time-of-day location patterns. Without having to generate and constantly update an energy-exorbitant fingerprint map, the disclosed system reduces localization error to merely 50 cm with 95% probability without compromising energy-efficiency to rival the accuracy of indoor localization systems that utilize fingerprinting.

Energy-efficient localization of wireless devices in contained environments

A Flettner rotor that employs localized suction over its surface improves performance and fuel efficiency. Simulations and analysis show that such a method can significantly improve the performance of the Flettner rotor. Improvements in rotor performance enable reduction in fuel costs and greenhouse gas emission by ships or other modes of transport. Improvements in rotor performance can also reduce noise for applications such as drones or other devices having rotors.

The disclosed embodiments are directed to a wearable automatic drug delivery device configured to provide basal-only dosing of insulin. In a primary embodiment, the wearable drug delivery device is configured to provide automatic operation and provides audible alerts and visual status indicators to the patient. In other embodiments, the patient may have some degree of control over the operation of the device by providing tapping gestures on housing of the device. In yet another embodiment, the patient may provide input and receive status from the device via an application executing on a portable computing device in wireless communication with the wearable drug delivery device.

A fully automated irrigation system to irrigate regular and irregular shapes of land. The system includes a water delivery pipe assembly configured to travel linearly while irrigating adjacent to a stationary row of water main spaced access valves. The system includes an automated connector configured to supply water from the access valves to the water delivery pipe assembly. The connector includes a swing arm, a compensator, a valve coupler, a lift and a swinger. The swing arm facilitates positioning a coupler body above a next-up access valve and facilitates positioning the delivery pipe assembly. The compensator compensates for distance change between a coupled-to access valve and the delivery pipe assembly when the assembly travels. A coupler body resides at an outer end of the swing arm. The lift raises and lowers the swing arm to couple and uncouple respectively the coupler body along the row of access valves. The lift also holds the swing arm above the ground while the swinger swings the swing arm proximate to the next-up access valve for subsequent coupling the coupler body thereto.

A system and method for dosing SOinto wine barrels is achieved with a device including a compressed gas cylinder containing compressed liquefied SOunder its own vapor pressure, a dosing wand fluidly connected to the cylinder via a hose that is adapted and configured to allow a flow of gaseous SOfrom the source to the dosing wand. The dosing wand includes a hollow needle dispensing nozzle and a SObatch flow controller in fluid communication between the hose and the hollow needle. The hollow needle dispensing nozzle is adapted and configured to pierce through a bung opening of a wine barrel and has at least one aperture at a terminal end thereof to allow gaseous SOto be dispensed into an interior of the wine barrel.

A fully automated land irrigation system to irrigate regular and irregular shapes of land. The system includes a water deliver pipe assembly configured to travel laterally while irrigating adjacent to a stationary row of spaced access valves supplied by a water main. The system includes a single coupler automated connector to automatically supply water to the water delivery pipe assembly. The connector includes a swing arm pivotably mounted to the water delivery pipe assembly, a valve coupler mounted to the swing arm to selectively access water from the water main via the spaced access valves and a water conveyance to operably flow water between the valve coupler and the swing arm. The valve coupler includes a vertical coupler travel configured to provide essentially vertical travel of the valve coupler relative to the swing arm. The water delivery pipe assembly can be center-pivot rotated employing a rotator. The rotator provides to anchor the delivery pipe assembly's rotation and to adjust the distance between the anchor and the delivery pipe assembly during the rotation.

Systems and methods for accurate measurement and transmission of water level parameters during weather events, such as floods, are provided. The solid-state system can effectively measure water level without utilizing moving parts, pumps, or floats and may implement an improved water level determination method that compensates for inherent sources of error. Additionally, the system may be comprised of a network of sensor units that can communicate weather measurements wirelessly via a hybrid mesh network consisting variously of wireless terrestrial radio, cellular, and satellite communication links. By doing so, the status of water level and other environmental parameters may be reported in real time to first responders and emergency planners.

A powered device augments a joint function of a human during a gait cycle using a powered actuator that supplies an augmentation torque, an impedance, or both to a joint. A controller estimates terrain slope and modulates the augmentation torque and the impedance according to a phase of the gait cycle and the estimated terrain slope to provide at least a biomimetic response. The controller may also modulate a joint equilibrium. Accordingly, the device is capable of normalizing or augmenting human biomechanical function, responsive to a wearer's activity, regardless of speed and terrain, and can be used, for example, as a knee orthosis, prosthesis, or exoskeleton.

The present invention is directed to optimization and failure detection of a wireless base station network. Based on RF link attenuation measurement, e.g., a Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) measurement, a server determines an optimal transmission sequence. Each base station of the optimal transmission sequence, a predecessor and a successor, are designated. Each base station of the sequence generates a packet. Most distant base station (relative to the server) transmits its packet to its successor. Each base station of the sequence (in turn) receives the packet from its predecessor, combines the received packet with its own generated packet, transmits the combined packet to its successor, and so on until the combined packet is relayed to a super base station at the end of the sequence. The super base station transmits the packet to the server. Based on the packet size, server can ascertain which base station (if any) failed.

A versatile flying lead (VHL) termination head system comprises an underwater vehicle interface, an interface plate, a termination frame, and an adjuster, disposed proximate the termination frame's connection end, which is configured to provide a configurable declination angle which sets a hang-off angle of a device connected to the interface plate with respect to the underwater vehicle interface. A subsea termination head may be manufactured and assembled by obtaining a predetermined set of standardized structural building blocks that fit together to form a complete termination frame which is as described herein, using the predetermined set of standardized structural building blocks to construct a subsea termination head from the predetermined set of standardized structural building blocks substantially in parallel and connecting the underwater vehicle interface to the frame at a predetermined angle using the adjuster.

In some embodiments, a system comprises a head mounted display (HMD) that: determines that a transparent 3D object overlaps a 3D model of a portion of anatomy based on a medical imaging scan; sets values for pixels corresponding to portions of the 3D model not occluded by the transparent object by performing a shading operation; sets values for pixels corresponding to portions of the 3D model at the boundary of the transparent object to intensity values taken from the medical imaging data; displays the 3D model with an exterior surface shaded to evoke a 3D object, and internal surfaces at the boundaries of the transparent object not shaded to preserve details embedded in the medical imaging data.

The present invention is directed to energy-efficient hibernation in indoor wireless localization systems. A tag passively associates with a detection point (DP) and establishes a reveille time. The tag will awaken at the reveille time and send or receive a beacon to or from its associated DP. If the tag is receiving a beacon, it will awaken, receive, phase-lock its clock based on when the beacon was expected and when it was actually received, and return to hibernation. The DP transmits a scattershot of beacons, one for every tag in the system. If the tag is sending a beacon, it will awaken, send its beacon, and return to hibernation. The DP will receive the beacon and adjust its own clock based on the delay between when the beacon was expected and when it was actually received. The tag will broadcast its location to the DP on a set interval.
