A rail pad can have a major face forming a railseat portion on which a foot of a railway rail sits when the pad is in use, the railseat portion having opposite side edges to at least part of each of which a respective upstanding portion of the pad can be connected, wherein the pad does not have any part which extends laterally from the railseat portion in a same plane as the railseat portion. The respective upstanding portion can be connected to a projection of the rail pad which extends laterally from the respective upstanding portion such that the projection can be vertically spaced from, and does not overhang, the railseat portion, the projection spaced from ends of the respective upstanding portion such that the projection can be configured to interlock with a corresponding opening in a front part of one of the railway rail clip anchoring devices.

Railway rail fastening clip and pad for recessed railseats

A resilient railway rail fastening clip () has successive first to seventh portions (to), where in a non-operative configuration, the first and seventh portions () form leg portions lying in a first plane (P), the second and sixth portions extend substantially away from and above the first plane (P), at least parts of the third and fifth portions () extend towards and above the first plane (P) with their longitudinal axes lying substantially in a second plane (R) that intersects the first plane (P) at a first acute angle &#x3b1;, and the fourth portion () extends substantially in or below the first plane (P) with its longitudinal axis lying substantially in a third plane (Q) that intersects the first plane (P) at a second acute angle &#x3b2;, where 0&#xb0;&#x3c;&#x3b2;&#x3c;&#x3b1;.

In a railway rail fastening clipfor fastening a railway rail to an underlying rail foundation, which clipis formed of an elongate plate shaped such that a central regionof the plate has in profile the form of a letter C, a first end region of the plate extending from one side of the central regionof the plate to form a substantially planar base portionof the clip for engaging a rail fastening anchoring device secured to the rail foundation and a second end region of the plate extending from the opposite side of the central regionof the plate to form a toe portionof the clip for bearing on a foot of the railway rail, such that in profile the second end region extends further than the first end region, the toe portion of the clip is provided with a throughholewhich is arranged such that, when the clip is in its operative configuration, part or all of the throughholelies above the foot of the rail, the throughhole being configured to receive a corresponding spigotof a toe insulatorfor electrically insulating the clip from the rail whereby the insulator can be retained on the toe portion of the clip.

Railway rail fastening clip and insulator

A railway rail pad (), for use beneath a railway rail in a rail fastening assembly as cushioning and/or electrical insulation, has first and second major faces (), the first face () having a rail seat portion () on which a foot of a railway rail sits when the pad () is in use, and side members (A,B) attached to and extending from two opposite edges of the first face () of the pad (). The side members (A,B) are arranged so as to be located on respective opposite sides of the railway rail when the pad () is in use such that the rail seat portion () of the pad () lies between respective inwardly-facing wall faces (A,B) of the said side members (A,B). When the pad () is not under load and is placed so as to rest on a surface with the first face () of the pad () uppermost and part of the surface lying beneath the rail seat portion of the pad, an inclination angle (&#x3b1;, &#x3b1;) between the wall face (A,B) of each side member (A,B) and that part of the surface beneath the rail seat portion on which the pad () is resting is greater than 90&#xb0;. When the pad is not under load, the first face is substantially convex in a vertical plane that is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rail when the pad is in use.

Railway rail pad

An electrical insulator for use with a rail fastening clip comprises a contact member providing on one side a substantially flat rail contact surface for contacting a foot of a rail and on the opposing side a clip contact surface for contacting a rail bearing surface of a bearing portion of the clip, the insulator also having retaining means for retaining the insulator on the clip in such a way as to allow rotation of the insulator about a longitudinal axis of the bearing portion of the clip. The insulator has stop portions for limiting such rotation about the longitudinal axis of the bearing portion of the clip to a desired extent. The clip contact surface of the insulator is convex, in a vertical plane which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the bearing portion of the clip, such that, when the insulator is attached to a clip having a flat rail bearing surface, a contact region between the flat rail bearing surface of the clip and the clip contact surface of the insulator is linear. The insulator is rockable about the linear contact region within the extent defined by the stop portions such that, when the rail contact surface of the insulator contacts the surface of a rail foot, the angle of the rail contact surface can conform to the angle of the rail foot surface. A rail fastening clip, suitable for use with the insulator and of the kind driven onto a rail in a direction which is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the rail, has a bearing portion having a flat rail bearing surface, wherein a detent, extending laterally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the bearing portion, is formed in the flat rail bearing surface, at a location spaced from a free end of the bearing portion of the clip, for engaging a corresponding abutment surface of the insulator to be retained on the rail bearing portion of the clip.

Insulator for railway fastening clip and railway rail fastening clip for use therewith

A shoulder for use in retaining a railway rail fastening clip, comprising two interconnected spaced-apart walls, between which a portion of the clip to be retained is held when the shoulder is in use, and clip-engaging means, supported by the walls, for engaging a portion of the clip to be retained, does not have any feature or surface which engages the surface of that clip portion which faces downwardly when the clip is in use. Alternatively, or in addition, none of the contact regions, at which the device engages the rail clip, can be seen when the anchoring device is viewed from above when in its operative orientation and all of the contact regions can be seen when the anchoring device is viewed from below when in the operative orientation. Alternatively, or in addition, all the contact regions lie substantially at the same horizontal distance from the edge of the rail foot when measured perpendicularly to the axis of the rail and in the plane of the rail foot.

Anchoring devices for rail fastening clips

A substantially M-shaped rail clip is substantially flat when in its non-operative configuration, and, when the clip is in an operative configuration, the toe of the clip lies substantially in a second plane and the legs of the clip lie substantially in a third plane, the second and third planes being non-parallel to one another.

Railway rail fastening clip

A railway rail fastening clip, for fastening a railway rail to an underlying rail foundation, is formed of an elongate plate shaped such that a central region of the plate has in profile the form of a letter C, a first end region of the plate extending from one side of the central portion of the plate to form a base portion of the clip for engaging a rail fastening anchoring device secured to the rail foundation and a second end region of the plate extending from the opposite side of the central region of the plate to form a toe portion of the clip for bearing on the railway rail. The toe portion of the clip is provided with an insulator retainer for retaining thereon a toe insulator for electrically insulating the clip from the rail.

A railway rail anchoring device, for use with a railway rail-fastening clip which is approximately M-shaped in plan and has first and second leg portions and a rail-bearing portion, comprises a base member and first and second clip-retaining members connected together by the base member such that the first clip-retaining member is spaced apart from the second clip-retaining member so as to define between the first and second clip-retaining members an opening for receiving the rail-bearing portion of such a clip. Each of the first and second clip-retaining members defines a passageway for receiving one of the leg portions of such a clip, and a boundary surface of at least one of the passageways includes, at a location intermediate respective ends of the passageway, first locating part for engagement, when the device is in use with such a clip, with a first region of the leg portion of the clip located in the passageway such that the clip can be held in a pre-assembly position in which the is retained by the device but the rail-bearing portion of the clip does not bear on a rail. Second locating part is also provided on a boundary surface of at least one of the passageways for engagement with a second region of the leg portion of the clip located in the passageway such that the clip can be held in a working position in which the rail-bearing portion of the clip bears on the rail. The first and second locating parts are such that the clip cannot move out of the pre-assembly position towards a rail unless driven in a first direction and the clip cannot move out of the working position away from the rail unless driven in a second direction, opposite to the first direction.

A railway rail fastening clip (1) suitable for holding down a railway rail (2) is formed from a rod of resilient material bent so as to be approximately M-shaped in plan, the clip (1) being such that, when it is bearing on the flange of a rail (2), the longitudinal axis of a part (14) thereof, which interconnects inner legs (13, 15) of the M, lies in a reference plane which is substantially parallel, but not identical, to a plane containing the longitudinal axes of outer legs (11, 17) of the M. Such clips (1) are used with an anchoring device (5), which, as the clip (1) is installed therein, deflects the outer legs (11, 17) downwardly with respect to the inner legs (13, 15), so as to place the clip under stress.
