Video data that depicts a facial motion of a face of a particular user of a computing device is obtained. A determination is made that a network performance metric for a network connection is less than a threshold network performance metric. Responsive to the determination, motion capture information is determined based on the video data. The motion capture information is indicative of the facial motion of the face of the particular user. The motion capture information is transmitted to the computing system. The motion capture information is for animation of a photorealistic three-dimensional representation of the face of the particular user.

An offloading schedule for offloading image frames that are to be generated by an AR device in a subsequent time period is determined, the offloading schedule identifying certain image frames generated in the subsequent time period that are to be offloaded and certain image frames generated in the subsequent time period that are not to be offloaded, the offloading schedule being selected from a plurality of offloading schedules based on a tracking stride of the offloading schedule. The AR device sends to a computing device at least some of the image frames generated in the subsequent time period in accordance with the offloading schedule.

Optimizing image offloading in edge-assisted augmented reality

A router device in a subscriber domain receives communications from a communication device. The communications are destined for delivery over a first network operated by a corresponding service provider to a destination in a second network such as the Internet. To convey communications, the router device maps a network address obtained from the first communications to a corresponding marker assigned to the communication device. The router device then tags the communications from the communication device with the corresponding marker and forwards the tagged communications (with the marker) over the first network to the second network. Responsive to the determining indicating that the average interface utilization for the customer premises equipment (CPE) device over the activity detection period does not exceed the activity detection threshold, the customer premises equipment (CPE) device cooperates with a speed test server to execute a speed test on the customer premises equipment (CPE) device using a speed test tool.
