Apparatus and methods for broadband low noise amplifiers (LNAs) with integrated limiters and fast recovery time are provided. In certain embodiments, an LNA includes a radio frequency (RF) amplification circuit, a feedback resistor connected along a feedback path from an output to an input of the RF amplification circuit, an input limiting circuit connected along an RF signal path between an RF input terminal and the input to the RF amplification circuit, and an input bias circuit that provides an input bias voltage to the input of the RF amplification circuit through the input limiting circuit.

Broadband low noise amplifiers with integrated limiters and fast recovery time

The present subject matter relates to active balun circuits. An active balun circuit includes a plurality of transistors; an output transmission line connected to output terminals of the transistors; an input transmission line; and a plurality of serial capacitors coupled to an input terminal of the transistors and the input transmission line.

Active balun design

A power combiner/divider circuit can be structured having a base structure with the addition of an odd-mode capacitor and a low pass network at an end of the base structure or structured having a base structure with the addition of an inductor and a high pass network at an end of the base structure. The power combiner/divider circuit can be implemented as a port coupled to multiple ports with low pass networks or high pass networks arranged at the ends of paths to the multiple ports. In embodiments using low pass base structures or low pass networks coupled to the base structures, inductors in such low pass sections can be positively coupled on a pair-wise basis.

Power combiner/divider

A pair of programmable state machines may be included in a transmitter integrated circuit of a scanner (e.g. a body scanner) to control the sub-circuits of the transmitter integrated circuit. The first programmable state machine may be used to control the signal processor of the transmitter that facilitates generation of a signal to be transmitted at a target, such as a user to be scanned. The second programmable state machine may be used to control the transmitter's selection of a transmission channel for transmitting the signal in which provides the signal to be transmitted to an antenna. Further, the receiver integrated circuit of the scanner may include a similar pair of programmable state machines for controlling the receive signal processor and receiver of the receiver integrated circuit. The inclusion of the state machines can reduce both the scan time and the circuit complexity of the scanner.

Various embodiments of switched amplifiers are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a switched amplifier may include a first amplifier; a second amplifier; an input matching network common to both the first and second amplifiers; and at least one switch to couple an input of the switched amplifier, via the input matching network, to one of the first amplifier or the second amplifier. In some embodiments, a switched amplifier may include a first amplifier; a second amplifier; an input matching network common to both the first and second amplifiers or an output matching network common to both the first and second amplifiers; and a bias generation circuit to selectively (1) provide a first bias current to the first amplifier or (2) provide a second bias current to the second amplifier, wherein the second bias current is less than the first bias current.
