The present invention provides a PHHM for the measurement of a subject's BP and, optionally, one or more other vital signs, comprising a housing located on a PHHCD or a hand-held component of a computing system; a blood flow occlusion means located in the housing such that, when the housing is located on the PHHCD or the hand-held component, an open surface of the blood flow occlusion means is available to be pressed against a body part of the subject or to have a body part of the subject pressed against it; a pressure sensor adapted to provide an electrical signal indicative of the pressure applied to or by the open surface; a means for detecting the flow of blood in the body part of the subject when pressure is applied to or by the open surface; and means for receiving electrical signals from the pressure sensor and the blood flow detecting means and for transmitting electrical signals indicative of the pressure and blood flow to the processor of the PHHCD or the computing system, wherein the processor of the PHHCD or computing system is adapted to process signals acquired by the pressure sensor and the blood flow detecting means to provide at least a measurement of the BP of a subject, the processor is further adapted to carry out a process to measure a DBP value and a SBP value, the DBP and the SBP values are estimated in such a way that the difference between the measured optical signals and those that would be generated by the estimation of the DBP and SBP values is minimized or the DBP and the SBP values are estimated in such a way that the difference between the measured incremental pressure signals and those that would be generated by the estimation of the DBP and SBP values is minimized. The present invention also provides alternative PHHMs and SADs for use in such PHMS.

Personal health data collection

The present application describes a Personal Hand-Held Monitor (PHHM) of the type described in WO 2013/002165, WO 2014/125431, and International Patent Application No. PCT/EP2015/079888, with improved aspects to find indicators of health, and other improvements that facilitate its construction and calibration.

The present application provides a personal hand-held monitor for the measurement of a subject's blood pressure and, optionally, one or more other vital signs, comprising a housing located on a personal hand-held computing device or a hand-held component of a computing system; a blood flow occlusion means located in the housing; a pressure sensor adapted to provide an electrical signal indicative of the pressure applied; a means for detecting the flow of blood in the body part of the subject when pressure is applied; and means for receiving electrical signals from the pressure sensor and the blood flow detecting means and for transmitting electrical signals indicative of the pressure and blood flow to the processor of the personal hand-held computing device or the computing system, wherein the processor of the personal hand-held computing device or computing system provide at least a measurement of the blood pressure of a subject. The processor is further adapted to carry out a process to measure a diastolic blood pressure value and a systolic blood pressure value.

A personal hand-held monitor (PHHM) comprising a signal acquisition device for acquiring signals which can be used to derive a measurement of a parameter related to the health of the user, wherein the signal acquisition device comprises a blood photosensor having one or more photo-emitters for transmitting light to a body part of a user, one or more photo-detectors for detecting light transmitted through or scattered by the body part and two or more optical cells, at least one of which contains an analyte to be detected or which mimics the absorption spectrum of the analyte to be detected, through which the light that has been or will be transmitted through or scattered by the body part passes before it reaches the or each photo-detector, wherein the processor of the PHHM is adapted to process the signals received from the or each photo-detector to calculate the difference in intensity of light which has passed through the or each analyte cell and light which has passed through the or each non-analyte cell and to process signals obtained from the photosensor to provide a measurement of the concentration of the analyte in the user's blood, wherein either: &#x22c5;the or each photo-emitter is a light-emitting diode (LED); &#x22c5;an optical cell that mimics the absorption spectrum of the analyte to be detected is used and is a manufactured optical filter; &#x22c5;the PHHM is adapted to provide optical signals at one or more additional wavelengths for transmission to the body part, and the processor of the PHHM is adapted to process signals at the or each additional wavelength to estimate the volume of blood in the field of view of the blood photosensor; or &#x22c5;there is a ridge on the surface of the signal acquisition device between the photo-emitter(s) and the photo-detector(s).

Non-invasive blood analysis

The present invention provides a personal hand-held monitor comprising a signal acquisition device for acquiring signals which can be used to derive a measurement of a parameter related to the health of the user, the signal acquisition device being integrated with a personal hand-held computing device. The present invention also provides a signal acquisition device adapted to be integrated with a personal hand-held computing device to produce a personal hand-held monitor as defined above.
