A resonator for a vehicle is provided, including a housing having at least one chamber formed therein. The housing has at least one aperture formed in a wall thereof. The housing is in fluid communication with an air conduit of the vehicle. At least one flexible member is disposed within the chamber of the housing. The flexible member includes an outer portion and an inner extension protruding from the outer portion which vibrates to attenuate low frequency sound energy transmitted from the air conduit.

Compact low frequency resonator

A sound generator for a vehicle is provided, including a hollow drum having a sound radiation panel structurally and acoustically coupled thereto. The drum has an aperture formed in an outer wall thereof. The drum is adapted to be in fluid communication with an air conduit of the vehicle. The sound radiation panel covers at least a portion of the aperture and is adapted to radiate sound energy to at least one of an engine compartment and an interior of the vehicle. A vehicle system including the sound generator and a method for manufacturing the sound generator are also provided.

A resonator for a vehicle air intake system is disclosed, wherein the resonator is variable tuned to militate against the emission of sound waves caused by the engine and other sources at a wide range of engine speeds.

Continuously variable tuned resonator

The present invention provides a resonator for attenuating acoustic vibration from an air intake passage. The resonator includes a neck, a resonator chamber, a piston-type member, and an actuator. The neck is attached between the air passage and the resonator chamber. The neck has two overlapping portions allowing the neck to extend within the resonator chamber. The piston-type member is located within the resonator chamber and is translated by the actuator to change the volume of the resonator and the neck length. By changing the volume and neck length of the resonator, the frequency attenuated by the resonator can be adjusted.

Variable geometry resonator for acoustic control

A modular air induction system for a vehicle is provided. The air induction system includes a housing, a partition, and a plurality of holding members. The housing defines a chamber and includes an opening in fluid communication with the chamber. A partition is located within the housing to separate the chamber into a first and second volume thereby changing attenuation characteristics of the chamber. The partition is fixed within the chamber by at least one first holding member, thereby defining a first partition location. In addition, at least one second holding member is located within the housing and is adapted to receive the partition, thereby defining a second partition location.

Modular resonator

An air induction system for a motor vehicle, having a pair of conduits fluidly connecting an engine to the ambient air and a housing located between the pair of conduits. The housing includes side walls and a top wall defining a chamber. A baffle plate for attenuating noise is positioned within the chamber adjacent to the top wall. Additionally, the baffle plate defines a plurality of openings extending therethrough.

Noise attenuation device for an air induction system

An in-line resonator for an air induction system of an internal combustion engine is provided. The system includes a resonator housing, an upstream duct, a downstream duct, a conduit, a partition, and a sleeve. The conduit extends through the resonator housing connecting the upstream duct and the downstream duct. The partition is moveable within the resonator housing and divides the housing into an upstream chamber and a downstream chamber. The downstream chamber, the conduit, and the downstream sleeve cooperate to form a first Helmholtz resonator that is in fluid communication with the downstream duct. The upstream chamber, the conduit, and the upstream sleeve cooperate to form a second Helmholtz resonator that is in fluid communication with the upstream duct. Further, a means is provided to axially move the partition to vary the volume of the chambers concurrently with the length and/or area of the passages.

Electronically controlled dual chamber variable resonator

A throttle body for use in the air intake system of a motor vehicle comprising a throttle body defining a throttle bore. The throttle plate is rotatably mounted within the throttle bore, having an outside diameter smaller than an inside diameter of the throttle bore. A plurality of fins, located on the throttle plate, extend from the throttle plate in a direction generally perpendicular to a plane defined by said throttle plate. The fins are optimized in number, thickness, spacing, length, shape, and angle to reduce air-rush noise without impacting engine performance.

A continuously variable Helmholtz resonator for a vehicle air intake system having a vibratory input to the resonator wall to dynamically adjust the cancellation frequency for time-varying acoustical signals, and at least one of mean resonator volume control, mean resonator neck length control, and mean resonator neck diameter control whereby control of both the dynamic and the mean properties of the resonator provides a wide-tuning spectrum and facilitates canceling of time-varying acoustical signals.

Helmholtz resonator

A variable tuned telescoping resonator which militates against the emission of noise energy caused by intake air in a vehicle wherein the connector length and the volume of the resonator are varied as a function of engine speed simultaneously to provide attenuation of noise energy over a wide frequency range.

Variable tuned telescoping resonator

An arrangement for reducing noise produced by an engine idle air bypass valve and passage includes positioning an acoustic diverter at the end of the air bypass passage to force the noise away from exterior surfaces of a downstream chamber and toward the internal cavities of the engine such as a cylinder head. The diverter of the present invention reduces noise without causing restriction of air flow through the air bypass passage.
