Combination head-protective helmet which includes a cap and an outwardly extending brim and thermal imaging apparatus which includes an infrared camera for producing an infrared image of a scene or object and a display system which generates a visible image of the scene or object from the infrared image, the camera is mounted underneath the brim of the protective helmet for protection against e.g. falling objects and the display system is mounted on the helmet in a position to permit a person wearing the combination to see the visible image.

A protective thermal overjacket for being worn over an outer protective shell and/or inner thermal liner of a person such as a firefighter, and for providing additional flame and thermal protection to the upper torso of the firefighter particularly the upper chest, upper back, and upper arms of the firefighter's body. Fasteners may be provided for interconnecting the collars of the protective thermal overjacket, the inner thermal liner and the outer protective garment; alternatively, the collar of the protective thermal overjacket may be provided with a fastener for fastening the collar of the overjacket around the collar of the outer protective garment.

An assembly is disposed on a helmet for monitoring predetermined thresholds of ambient thermal condition of the helmet. Such assembly includes at least one thermistor for sensing the status of an ambient thermal condition and a signal comparator for detecting each predetermined threshold. Individual LED's visually indicate when each predetermined threshold is reached, while an audible alarm indicates when a hazardous predetermined threshold is reached. The audible alarm is further utilized to indicate if the battery voltage is under a predetermined threshold which is predicated on the breakdown voltage of a reference diode when a test switch is closed. A temperature responsive switch is also included to conserve the life of the battery by activating and deactivating the assembly about a predetermined temperature level.

Assembly for monitoring helmet thermal conditions

There is disclosed a pressure monitoring device for self-containing breathing apparatus including visual indicators disposed in the field of view from the headpiece to monitor when predetermine pressure levels are reached in the tank which supplies gas to that headpiece. The predetermined pressure levels are referenced to the residual tank pressure at which the required breathing gas flow is not sustained and visual alarm provisions anticipate those predetermined pressure levels which are critical, in some embodiments of the invention. A cost effective transducer of reduced pressure range senses the tank pressure and noise is eliminated from the transducer signal by common mode rejection in still other embodiments.

A protective helmet assembly including an outer impact shell and an inner impact attenuation liner assembly wherein the inner liner assembly includes an adjustable headband assembly comprised of a front headband member and a rear spring-loaded headband member under the control of a chinstrap into a fitted configuration about the head of the user by a clip assembly. The inner impact attenuation liner assembly is mounted within the outer impact shell to separate therefrom under predetermined load conditions.
