According to at least one embodiment, a method, a computer system, and a computer program product for minimizing I/O operations when validating databases are provided. The present invention may include creating a corresponding system-managed chain database for an application database, the chain database comprising a list of one or more dynamically allocated records, if present, for one or more fixed entries in the application database, wherein each of the fixed entries comprises a respective chain database array item in the chain database; scanning, via a validation utility, one or more chain database array items; marking each of the one or more dynamically allocated records listed in the chain database for the fixed entries as found; and checking, via an indicator with various states, if the one or more dynamically allocated records for the one or more fixed entries are listed in the respective chain database array item.

Minimizing I/O operations when validating flat databases

Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for using a transient cache list and prolonged cache list to manage tracks in cache based on a demotion hint with a track access request. A track is staged into the cache in response to a request for the track. A determination is made as to whether the request provides a demotion hint. The track is indicated in a transient cache list in response to determining that the request provides the demotion hint. The track is indicated in a prolonged cache list in response to determining that the request does not provide the demotion hint. The track is demoted from the cache in response to the request for the track comprising a read request, returning the track to the read request, and the track is indicated in the transient cache list.

A computer-implemented method for storing documents in a centralized database system based on geographical data localization includes receiving, by a database manager, a request to update a document according to a data localization criterion, the document stored in a local storage device of the centralized database system. The method further includes determining, by the database manager, a geographical location for a local copy of the document based on an attribute of the document matching the localization criterion. The method further includes creating, by the database manager, a remote copy of the document on a storage device that is physically located in the geographical location. The method further includes modifying, by the database manager, the local copy of the document to include a location information of the remote copy.

Centralized database system with geographically partitioned data

A method for removing stale messages from a storage controller is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes querying, by a host system, a storage controller to determine ownership of a lock on the storage controller. The host system receives, in response to the query, information indicating that the lock has been granted to the host system. This allows the host system to treat the lock as being granted even though the host system has not received a 'lock granted' message from the storage controller. Before using the lock, the host system sends, to the storage controller, an instruction to clear any stale messages on the storage controller related to the lock. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

Application servers having multiple virtual machines are restarted by sequentially addressing each active virtual machine (VM) by adding a corresponding new VM prior to stopping the active VM before adding another new VM corresponding to another of the multiple virtual machines to be restarted. Application servers are monitored for restart conditions that trigger a sequential process of adding a new VM and stopping the corresponding active VM.

Management of hierarchical process groups is provided. Aspects include creating a group identifier having an associated set of resource limits for shared resources of a processing system. A process is associated with the group identifier. A hierarchical process group is created including the process as a parent process and at least one child process spawned from the parent process, where the at least one child process inherits the group identifier. A container is created to store resource usage of the hierarchical process group and the set of resource limits of the group identifier. The set of resources associated with the hierarchical process group is used to collectively monitor resource usage of processes. A resource allocation adjustment action is performed in the processing system based on determining that an existing process exceeds a process resource limit or the hierarchical process group exceeds at least one of the set of resource limits.

An aspect includes receiving a transaction scope generated for a process in response to processing in a critical section and receiving collected data related to the process. Requests are generated using the collected data. The requests and data are stored as pending items chained together to form an ordered list in a private storage during critical section processing. The requests are processed based on the transaction scope, the processing including implementing a check of the process for any pending items in response to a transaction scope application programming interface being called or other processing relating to the pending items. The pending items are processed in the order they are created by using the ordered list. One of the requests is a rollback request that includes at least one of removing the pending items from the private storage, releasing the private storage for all pending items, and resuming normal processing.

A process is associated with the group identifier. The set of resources associated with the hierarchical process group is used to collectively monitor resource usage of a plurality of processes in the hierarchical process group.

Techniques are provided for replicating database contents to network-enabled remote systems, and limiting such replication with respect to sensitive database contents. An indication is received that a subset of record fields in a database comprise sensitive data. The subset of indicated record fields are flagged based on the received indication. At least a portion of the database is replicated to multiple remote systems, such that for at least a first of the remote systems, data associated with a larger plurality of record fields is provided to the remote system. For at least a second of the remote systems, based on the flagging of the subset of indicated record fields, only data associated with record fields other than the flagged subset is provided to the remote system.

According to one or more embodiments, a system and computer implemented method for managing critical section processing are provided. The method includes generating, using a processor, a transaction scope for a process in response to processing in a critical section, collecting data related to the process, generating, using the processor, a request using the collected data, storing the request and data as a pending item in a private storage during critical section processing, and processing, using the processor, the request based on the transaction scope.

Embodiments of the invention provide a method, system and computer program product for selectable data on file viewing in a debugger. A method includes specifying a file in a user interface of a debugger executing in memory of a computer and debugging a target application and determining whether to view data in the file from a perspective of the computer or the target application. The method additionally includes loading the data in the file directly from the computer externally to the target application in response to determining to view the data in the file from the perspective of the computer, but otherwise loading the data through operations performed by the debugger on behalf of the target application in response to determining to view the data in the file from the perspective of the target application. Finally, the method includes displaying the loaded data in a file viewer of the user interface of the debugger.
