A method of separating an analyte from a biological sample is described. The method comprises providing particles capable of binding said analyte when present in a solution in a container, said container comprising walls, wherein at least a part of said walls is flexible. The particles are suspended in the solution by exerting a force on the flexible part of the walls of the container more than one time. An aliquot of the suspended particles is then removed from the container. The removed aliquot is dispensed into a sample, and the sample is incubated under conditions suitable to immobilize said analyte on the particles. The particles with the bound analyte are then separated from other material and at least part of the biological sample is removed.

Particle mixing

The invention provides for an analysis system () for analyzing a biological sample () comprising an analyzer () with an analytical unit () for analyzing the biological sample to obtain an analysis result (). The analyzer is configured for receiving a cartridge () comprising an identifier () and containing at least one reagent for analyzing the biological sample. The analyzer comprises an identification unit () for reading the identifier. The analyzer accepts the cartridge if the identifier is valid. The analysis system further comprises a protocol creation system (). Instructions cause the protocol creation system to: receive () analysis protocol parameters () from a user interface (); generate () a custom analysis protocol () using the analysis protocol parameters; link () the custom analysis protocol to an invalid identifier which changes the invalid identifier into a valid identifier, and transfer () the user created analysis protocol associated with the now valid identifier to the analyzer controller.

Analysis system for a biological sample

The present invention relates to the sample preparation of nucleic acids for diagnostic purposes. More precisely, the invention provides a process for simultaneously isolating at least a first and a second target nucleic acid from a plurality of different types of fluid samples and optionally amplifying said isolated nucleic acids in a simultaneous manner.

Generic sample preparation

The present invention provides a method for the amplification of at least a first and a second target nucleic acid that may be present in a fluid sample. The invention further provides a kit and an analytical system for carrying out said amplification.

Generic PCR

The present invention provides methods and probe nucleic acids for detecting mutant forms of target nucleic acids that comprise repetitive nucleotide sequences. In certain embodiments, for example, these approaches and reagents can be used to detect instability in regions of genomic DNA that include microsatellite markers. The invention also provides related reaction mixtures, systems, and kits.
