A lubricant distribution system for supplying lubricant. The system includes a reservoir for lubricant and a pump assembly for pumping the lubricant. The pump assembly includes a crank case having a crank assembly that is insertable into and removable from a housing of the crank case without disassembly of the crank assembly, to provide ease of assembly and disassembly of the crank case. The system also includes a shut-off valve stopping the refilling of the reservoir with lubricant. The shut-off valve includes a blocker for preventing the flow of lubricant to the reservoir and an actuation surface for positioning the blocker to prevent the flow of lubricant. For overfill protection, the actuation surface is movable relative to the blocker. The system also includes a mount with a one-way valve mounted thereto. The one-way valve is removable from the mount for easy replacement or cleaning of the one-way valve.

Apparatus and method for supplying lubricant to a plurality of lubrication sites. Embodiments include a pump with venting and non-venting piston return, a pump with stirrer and direct feed mechanism, a pump with CAN system and self-diagnostics, a pump with heated housing and reservoir and a pump with stepper motor and overdrive control.

A lubricant reservoir refilling system. The system includes a removable reservoir having a tank for receiving lubricant, a refill inlet fluidly communicating with the tank, and a connector. The refilling system also includes a refilling station including a refill housing having a connector configured for releasable connection with the reservoir connector, an inlet on the refill housing adapted for connection to a supply of lubricant, and an outlet on the refill housing positioned for fluid communication with the reservoir refill inlet when the reservoir is connected to the refilling station to allow delivery of lubricant from the refilling station through the reservoir refill inlet to refill the tank. The refill housing connector is functionally identical to a connector on a pump assembly so the reservoir including the tank can be removed from the refilling station and removably connected to the pump.

An applicator assembly for delivery of a pumpable material to a top surface of a rail head includes an applicator body having a plurality of orifices. The body is resiliently yieldable to permit the applicator body to move from a raised position, in which the orifices are located adjacent the top surface of the rail head and open toward the top surface of the rail head for delivery of lubricant directly from the orifices to the top surface of the rail head, to a depressed position in the event the applicator is contacted by a train wheel. The applicator body thereafter returns to the raised position. A metal portion of the applicator body contacts a side surface of the rail head to form a metal-on-metal hard seal extending lengthwise of the rail head for inhibiting leakage of the pumpable material from the top of the rail head.

An applicator assembly for delivery of a pumpable material to a top surface of a rail head of rail includes an applicator body having an orifice for delivery of the pumpable material to the top surface of the rail. The body is resiliently yieldable to permit the applicator body to move from a raised position, in which the orifice is positioned for delivering the pumpable material to the top surface of the rail head, to a depressed position in the event the applicator is contacted by a train wheel. The applicator body thereafter returns to the raised position. The applicator body is mounted for movement between a working position in which the applicator body is closely adjacent the rail head and a rail-service position in which the applicator body is remote from the rail head. When the applicator body is in its working position, a metal portion of the applicator body contacts the rail head to form a metal-on-metal hard seal extending lengthwise of the rail head for inhibiting leakage of the pumpable material from the top of the rail head. The applicator assembly is free of any non-metal seals for sealing against such leakage.

Apparatus for applying a pumpable material to a rail head

A bleed system for venting pressurized gas at a selectively adjustable flow rate. The bleed system includes a plurality of bleed flow paths of different lengths providing varying resistance to the flow of air and a bleed path selector mechanism movable between a plurality of different settings corresponding with the different flow paths. The flow paths are defined by channels formed in a face of a plate and are connectable in series. The bleed system is applied in a runaway control for an air motor which shuts off the motor when its speed exceeds a predetermined cut-off speed. Selection of a different bleed flow path adjusts the cut-off speed.

This invention is directed to a method of lubricating an object. The method involves the steps of spraying lubricant on a rotating object, and synchronizing the duration of spray to the rotation of the object so that the spray continues only for an interval of spray time corresponding to rotation of the object through a predetermined range of rotation. Apparatus for spraying lubricant on a rotating object is also disclosed.

A dispenser for ejecting a volume of fluid. The dispenser is adapted for connection thereof in a system for supplying fluid under pressure thereto for charging it with fluid to be dispensed. A system for delivery of the volume of fluid ejected by the dispenser includes a discharge valve adapted to be closed for the charging of the dispenser and to be opened for ejecting the volume. An energy accumulator for accumulating energy for actuating the dispenser to eject the volume of fluid is accumulative of the dispenser-actuable energy in response to the supplying of fluid under pressure to the dispenser for charging it.

A lubricant supply device having a housing defining a reservoir for holding a supply of lubricant, a pump in the housing, and a lubricant distributor having a sealing connection with the housing. The distributor has an inlet for entry of lubricant into the distributor and multiple outlets for exit of lubricant from the distributor for delivery to multiple points of lubrication. The distributor and housing have mating surfaces which seal against one another whereby lubricant from the pump can flow from the housing directly into the distributor without intervening lines.
