Coupling system housings including a receptacle housing with a domed protective door and a male coupler housing that may be used to actuate the receptacle housing door are disclosed. The receptacle housing may be mounted in a receiving structure. The receptacle housing is configured with a dome-shaped door that conceals and protects the connectors of an assembled receptacle when in the closed position. The receptacle housing also includes a biasing mechanism that urges the door to a closed position and maintains the door in its closed position when a male coupler is not mated to the receptacle. The male coupler housing is configured with an ergonomic handle suitable for one handed operation of the male coupler. The male coupler housing may be used to actuate the receptacle housing door during insertion and mating of and assembled male coupler to an assembled receptacle.

Connector

A connector for electrical or optical conduits that provides a field configurable keying of the insulator plugs relative to each other and relative to the connector casings. A separate relative keying means is included that is separate from the case keying or locating mechanism. The connector also utilizes a retention means for example, a one-way snap apron, to retain the insulator within the receptacle case.

A socket contact for meeting with a pin contact in an electrical conductor is shown. The socket contact is provided with an electrical contact-attaching section formed within a receptacle section for providing a electrically efficient design. A pin having at one section diameter larger than the interior diameter of the receptacle section initially engages the arc arresting portion and establishes an electrical connection between the pin and the socket contacts. The socket contact retains the pin in a centrally disposed opening after insertion, eliminating contact between the pin and arc arresting area.
