Systems, methods, and computer readable media to improve the operation of graphics systems are described. In general, techniques are disclosed for determining the computational need of GPU-centric elements executing from within pages of another application, selecting one or more GPU's appropriate to the need, and transitioning the system to the selected GPUs.

GPU power and performance management

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that configures a computer system to switch between graphics-processing units (GPUs). In one embodiment, the system drives a display using a first graphics-processing unit (GPU) in the computer system. Next, the system detects one or more events associated with one or more dependencies on a second GPU in the computer system. Finally, in response to the event, the system prepares to switch from the first GPU to the second GPU as a signal source for driving the display.

Policy-based switching between graphics-processing units

Techniques for anti-aliasing of graphical objects. A graphical object to be displayed on a display image may be modified to include a border region at least partially surrounding the object. The color of the border region may be selected based on the color of the background over which the graphical object is to be displayed. The graphical object is linearly filtered. The linearly filtered graphical object is displayed on a display device.
