An adapter and interface permits a standard mortise lock to drive top and bottom latch mechanisms of a multi-point lock system. An actuator permits in situ adjustment of the top and bottom vertical latch projections of adjusting these projections while the door is hung in the door frame. An installation tool assists in the installation of the vertical rods in a door. A connector and carrier secures the vertical rods to the actuator and permits verification of retention of the rods in a multi-point latching system. A latch dogging indicator allows for end-user adjustment between a single-point lock and a multi-point lock system when desired. These different aspects may be employed in combination or separately with other locking systems.

A tool for adjusting the backset of a latch bolt. The latch bolt includes a latch bolt and a tailpiece. A housing receives the latch bolt and includes a transversely extending protrusion. A casing slidably receives the housing such that the protrusion on the housing is received in a slot on the casing and an inner end of the tailpiece extends from the housing and casing. The casing is rotated relative to the housing to allow relative axial movement between the casing and the housing when transitioning between the first backset position and the second backset position. The tool includes a member defining a first slot for receiving the inner end of the tailpiece and a pair of second slots for receiving the pair of ears such that rotation of the tool rotates the tailpiece and the casing simultaneously.

A latch assembly comprises a latch bolt and a tailpiece including a first tailpiece member mounted to the latch bolt and a second tailpiece member. The second tailpiece member is movably received in a bore of the first tailpiece member and operably connected to a latch operator. The second tailpiece member is received in one of two axially spaced recesses in the bore in a first backset position and a second backset position. Relative axial movement between the first tailpiece member and the second tailpiece member is prevented in a first relative rotational position in the first backset position and in a second relative rotational position in the second backset position, and relative axial movement is allowed in a third relative rotational position to allow the second tailpiece member to be moved between the first backset position and the second backset position. A housing slidably receives the latch bolt therein and a casing defining a peripheral slot having two axially spaced circumferential portions interconnected by a longitudinal portion receives the housing such that a protrusion on the housing is slidably received in the slot. Relative axial movement between the casing and the housing is prevented when the protrusion is in either one of the two circumferential portions of the slot in a first rotational position in the first backset position and in a second rotational position in the second backset position, and relative axial movement is allowed in a third rotational position to allow the protrusion on the housing to be movable along the longitudinal passage between the circumferential portions of the slot when transitioning between the first backset position and the second backset position.

An electric latch retraction device for vertical rod door latches includes an automatic adjustment feature including a limit switch and a linear sensor, such as a Hall effect sensor, which detects vertical position. A microcontroller monitors the vertical position of a pivoting retraction lever driven at the pivot by a linear driver. The housing for the electric latch retraction device is preferably external to the door and one end of the retraction lever extends into the door to drive a vertical rod door latch mechanism while an opposed end contacts the limit switch to signal that continued driving of the linear driver will begin to drive the vertical rod door latch. The microcontroller determines from the vertical position of the retraction lever when the limit switch is actuated whether the electric latch retraction device is mounted too high or too low.

A method for manufacturing a multi-layered support structure provides ergonomic, adaptable seating support. The cooperative layers each include elements such as pixels, springs, support rails, and other elements to provide this adaptable comfort and support. The method for manufacturing the multi-layered support structure uses aligned material to provide a flexible yet durable support structure. Accordingly, the method provides a multi-layered support structure, which provides maximum comfort for a wide range of body shapes and sizes.

A seating structure includes a backrest member having an upper edge, opposite side edges and a lower edge. The backrest member has a forwardly facing convex shape formed along a vertical centerline thereof between the upper and lower edges. The lower edge has a forwardly facing concave shape. The lower edge has outer portions positioned forwardly of an entirety of the upper edge.

A seating structure includes a central spine and an upper back structure having a pair of arms extending upwardly and outwardly from the central spine. The upper back structure is pivotally connected to the central spine about a first horizontal axis. The present invention provides a pin and tumbler cylinder lock and a retrofitted cylinder lock which minimizes unauthorized openings of the lock by bumping. The cylinder lock utilizes specially designed driver pins which are correlated in size to the largest possible stack height of the tumbler pins with a bump key inserted in the plug portion of the lock and the shear line height of the lock. All the driver pins are about the same height and preferably symmetrical with a lip on each end. The invention also provides a method for retrofitting existing locks by removing at least one of the driver pins and replacing the removed driver pin or pins with the driver pins of the invention.

An upper portion of the back is pivotable relative to the lower portion between a neutral position and an extended position, with the upper portion being pivotable relative to the lower portion independent of the tilt position of the back. In one aspect, an adjustment mechanism is coupled between lower and upper back support members and pivots the upper support member between at least first and second support positions.
