A method of controlling operation of equipment that spools cable on and off a rotatable drum, in one or more embodiments, includes obtaining video data of a position of the cable on the rotatable drum. The method can also include feeding data into a trained artificial neural network and processing the data fed into the trained artificial neural network to determine at least one of a calculated position of the cable on the rotatable drum, a calculated fleet angle, or both. The method can also include actuating the rotatable drum to one of spool cable on and off the rotatable drum.

A method of controlling operation of equipment that spools an elongated member on and off a rotatable drum, in one or more embodiments, includes obtaining video data of a position of the elongated member on the rotatable drum. A downhole closed loop method for controlling a drilling toolface includes measuring first and second attitudes of the subterranean borehole at corresponding first and second upper and lower survey stations. The first and second attitudes are processed downhole while drilling to compute an angle change of the subterranean borehole between the upper and lower survey stations. The computed angle change is compared with a predetermined threshold. This process may be continuously repeated while the angle change is less than the threshold. The first and second attitudes are further processed downhole to compute a toolface angle when the angle change of the subterranean borehole is greater than or equal to the threshold. The toolface angle may then be further processed to control a direction of drilling of the subterranean borehole.

A method for continuous downlinking from a surface location to a bottom hole assembly includes using a bottom hole assembly to drill a subterranean wellbore. A drilling value is acquired at a surface location while drilling. The acquired drilling value is downlinked from the surface location to the bottom hole assembly. This process is continuously repeated while drilling.

The present disclosure relates to determining a property, such as resistivity, of an earth formation. A transmitter is disposed in a wellbore penetrating the formation, and a plurality of receivers are distributed on or near the earth's surface. The transmitter sends electromagnetic energy into the formation and the resulting signal, after passing through the formation, is detected by the array of receivers. The received signal is used to determine the property of the formation. This is often achieved using an inversion or numerical model of the formation being measured. The inversion takes into account changes in the background formation model due to transmitting from various locations. The measurements made on the formation can be performed while drilling the wellbore or subsequent to the drilling.
